Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited (TKML) has just launched the Innova Crysta Petrol Limited Edition. Priced at Rs. 17.45 lakh, the Limited Edition Innova Crysta Petrol gets three new features: tyre pressure monitoring system, wireless charging and a heads-up display. The limited edition model is based on the base trim of the Innova Crysta Petrol, and this explains the sharp pricing.
The Innova Crysta Petrol is powered by a 2.7 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine that puts out 164 Bhp-245 Nm. While the lower trims of the Innova Crysta Petrol get a 5 speed manual gearbox, the higher trims get a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. All variants of the Innova Crysta Petrol are rear wheel driven. Fuel efficiency of the petrol MPV is rated at 10.6 Kmpl for the manual trim, and 10.5 Kmpl for the automatic trim.
Clearly, the Innova Crysta Petrol is quite a drinker, which is why it’s not favoured by cab operators who instead love the diesel version of the Innova that delivers an ARAI certified 15.6 Kmpl. The petrol Innova Crysta is meant for those who travel limited distances, and seek the additional refinement of a petrol engine. Toyota has stopped taking fresh bookings for the diesel Innova Crysta citing long waiting times due to massive demand. The automaker hasn’t specified when bookings for the diesel Innova Crysta would resume.

Innova Crysta to make way for an all-new model?
We suspect that Toyota’s move to stop diesel Innova Crysta bookings is meant to make space for an all-new Innova, which is likely to be called the Innova HyCross. The new MPV is expected to be a petrol-hybrid, and could feature monocoque construction. An unveil could happen later this year, with the official launch expected to happen at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo. The Innova Crysta is about 6 years old, and will turn 7 next year. The time is right for a successor, and Toyota is known to update its best selling vehicles once in 6-7 years.

The Toyota Innova, TKM’s flagship offering in India has come a long way ever since its introduction in 2005. Having created a niche of its own, the versatile segment leading Innova has always remained a notch above when compared to other models in the segment. Over the years, the vehicle has undergone several enhancements be it luxury, comfort or performance features , in order to meet the ever-changing needs of the Indian customers. Similarly, the second generation Innova Crysta, continues to win customer hearts , being a segment leader itself. Having found its home in close to 1 million households in India the brand Innova has become synonymous to Quality, Durability & Reliability and is widely preferred by customers from both personal & commercial segments. However, due to very high demand pattern which has resulted in an increased waiting period for the diesel variant of Innova Crysta, TKM has decided to temporarily stop taking orders for the diesel variant. As a customer centric company, we are making efforts to supply the vehicles to customers who have already made bookings with our dealers. However, we will continue to take order for Petrol variant of Innova Crysta.
