Almost every Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pick up sold is customized in one way or the other by buyers. Isuzu has now taken it upon itself to come up with an arresting, modified D-Max V-Cross. It’s called the ‘Safir’ and only 10 units will be sold. Nope, India will not get this pick up truck and all 10 of the customized ‘Safir’ V-Cross’ will be sold in the United Kingdom. It’s priced at 33,000 GBP, which is about Rs. 33 lakhs in Indian money. However, most of the changes on the Safir can be replicated through the after market route, at probably a much cheaper price, if that’s some solace. We’ll give you a lowdown on what the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross ‘Safir’ is all about.
As the pictures clearly reveal, the V-Cross ‘Safir’ is a lifted pick up truck. Isuzu has given it about 2 inches of lift, and this is the single biggest modification that changes the entire stance of the vehicle. The tyres are on-off road units shod on 17 inch alloy wheels. The alloy wheels, tyres and the lift come together to make the V-Cross look mean and menacing, even when standing still.
Each of the 10 pick-up trucks get a Sapphire Blue Mica paint finish, which adds to the overall look, making these vehicles look all gleamy and premium. Other changes on the outside include LED daytime running lights on the front bumper, and a light bar mounted high-up, on the roof. Silver rear sports bar and a silver Mountain Top roller cover complete the changes on the outside.
On the inside, Isuzu has raised the luxury quotient a few notches. The seats are finished in bespoke leather and give the look and feel of an expensive sportscar. The Sapphire Blue contrast stitch makes it to the seats as well. The steering wheel is a D-shaped unit – another sporty touch – and gets a leather and suede finish.
The infotainment system also gets a big upgrade in the form of a 9 inch, touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity options. There are 9 speakers, a sub-woofer and an HDMI port to take care of entertainment needs. The modification job on the interiors are wrapped up with a wireless charger, and a front camera that shows the driver the position of objects ahead of the bumper.
Under the hood, there’s the new 1.9 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine on offer, with 160 Bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed automatic gearbox is offered with this engine while a four wheel drive transfer case with low and high ratios are standard.
Notably, this engine will also be offered on the India-spec V Cross in a while from now. The facelifted version of the V-Cross is nearly ready for launch in India. The 1.9 liter diesel is also expected to be available with a 6 speed manual gearbox. Also, this motor will be made Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant next year.
