We’ve been reporting for quite some time now that the current BMW models using the N63 4.4-liter engine will be upgraded in the near future and become ‘M Performance models’. As soon as the M850i came out, we also knew the specs of the revamped mill and now, the BMW X5 xDrive50i and the X7 xDrive50i are bound to be replaced by their M50i counterparts. Once the new X6 arrives, the same badging will apply to it as well, making it stop just one small step behind the full-on M model.
The upcoming BMW X6 M50i model was just spotted doing the rounds on the Nurburgring, getting ready for its full unveil. The Sport Activity Coupe will be revealed this summer, joining its extended X family. When it comes to design, the current, F16 model, is one of the good looking BMWs in the current lineup and it has been refined with every generation.
The new, G06 version will get some styling cues from the G05 X5. The front ends will be very similar, up to the B-Pillar even, and of course, a fairly sized kidney grille. The rear end could be similar to the X4 to some extent, retaining the coupe roofline, but with some additional sleekness built into it. Under the hood we’ll find the exact same engines as on the X5, from 3-liter diesels in Europe to the top dog M50i model, like the car in the footage below.
You can easily tell this is the M Performance model by the sound it makes, that V8 burble being virtually unmistakable. 523 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque will surely translate into plenty of performance for this SAC so we can’t wait to see it unveiled in full.
