The fictional, yet highly desirable ///M Town has now found a home in Australia. The local BMW office has just hosted a press launch of the BMW X3 M and X4 M models, and along with that, they setup an ///M Town to go with all that power.
The Outback M Town is one of the many sites setup around the world, including the recently unveiled M Town expo at BMW Welt. Compared to the Welt location, the M Town in the Land Down Under resides on a private property north-east of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia.
To make things even more interesting, a sand track was put in place, comprised of 23 corners and one long straight. So it was all natural that the drivers of the X3 M and X4 M had a lot of fun playing with the xDrive system.
“Outback M Town unites BMW M and X in arguably the most rugged and challenging terrain in Australia,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Vikram Pawah. “It is the perfect playground to test the capabilities of the newest additions to the BMW M range – the X3 M and X4 M Competition.”
Under the hood of the BMW X3 M and X4 M lies a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6, internally known as ‘S58’, and it’s based off of the B58 I6 currently used in almost every BMW model. In regular spec, it makes about 473 hp but in Competition spec, the one we see here, it makes a whopping 503 hp.
