Upcoming Tata Cars & SUVs in India: Gravitas to Hornbill

Tata Motors currently has one of the youngest model line-ups in the country. The manufacturer has changed the model design language and has also introduced all-new platforms to the market. In the coming four years, Tata Motors will bring in a slew of products in a bid to gain more market shares. As per ACI, there will be 12-14 new models that will be launched in the Indian market in the next few years. Which are these models? Well, have we have a fair idea of the models that Tata may launch in the coming times.

Altroz

The all-new Tata Altroz will be launched in the Indian market next year. It will be the manufacturer’s first vehicle in the Indian market that will be based on the new ALFA platform. The Tata Altroz will be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both the engine options will only get a manual transmission option.

Nexon EV

The Nexon EV will be the first electric SUV from the brand. It will be also the first electric vehicle from the manufacturer to be sold to the customers. Until now, Tata offers the Tiago EV and the Tigor EV to the government and commercial fleet owners. The Nexon EV will get connected technology and will have a range of around 250 km on a full charge.

Tata Harrier

Tata will launch the BS6 version of the Harrier before the April deadline in the Indian market. The car was launched earlier this year, which is why the vehicle may remain unchanged visually but power-wise, it may get the 170 PS – 350 Nm out from the same 2.0-litre diesel engine unit. Tata is also expected to add an automatic transmission to the Harrier, which is missing from it till now.

Tata Gravitas

The Tata Gravitas will be the 7-seater version of the Harrier and will replace the Hexa from the model line-up. The styling of the Gravitas is similar to the Harrier and the feature list of both the vehicles are expected to remain the same. The Gravitas will be longer than the Harrier but will get powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine option and will also get the same transmission option.

Tata Hornbill (H2x)

Based on the H2X concept, the Tata Hornbill micro SUV is expected to be showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo in production guise. When launched, the Hornbill will sit below the sub-4 meter SUV segment and will provide an alternative to people who are in the market for a hatchback. It is designed in accordance with Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and will be built upon the ALFA platform. We expect that Tata would equip the Hornbill micro SUV with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata will launch the Altroz EV in the Indian market, which is expected to be launched in the Indian market by 2021. The Altroz EV is expected to share the driving range, power and drivetrain with the Nexon EV, which will be launched in the market before that.

All-new Tata Nexon

Tata will launch the all-new Nexon in 2022-2023 and it will be based on the ALFA platform. The all-new Nexon will look very different from the current version and is also expected to get powered by new-generation of engines. Before that, Tata will launch a facelifted version of the Nexon in the market.

All-new Tiago

The Tata Tiago has already received a facelift and is slowly coming to the end of its lifecycle. The highly successful Tata Tiago will get an all-new version, which will be based on the ALFA platform. The hatchback is expected to follow the latest Tata design language and we may also get to see the split headlamp set-up.

All-new Tigor

Just like the Tata Tiago, the Tigor will also receive a full model change that will utilise the ALFA platform. The lightweight modular platform will ensure that the Tigor gets the proper sedan shape and looks different from the Tiago in every manner. Both Tiago and Tigor will continue to share the engine options.

Tiggo

To take on the Hyundai Creta, Tata may launch an all-new vehicle in partnership with its Chinese partner Cherry. Based on the Cherry Tiggo, Tata is expected to bring an all-new vehicle that will take on the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. The all-new car will be positioned just below the Tata Harrier in the model line-up.

MPV

Tata is also expected to bring in the Maruti Suzuki-rival in the Indian market in the coming years. Even this vehicle will be based on the ALFA platform. It will be one of the first modern-day MPV from Tata Motors in India. However, it may take 2-3 years to become a reality.

 e-vision mid-sized sedan

Tata showcased the e-Vision at the Geneva Motor Show but it will lead to an all-new vehicle that will become the rival of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. Tata is yet to enter the segment and the all-new mid-size sedan will help the brand to spread the portfolio in the Indian market.
