2020 so far has been a very busy month for the car manufacturers. We saw a number of launches in the form of facelifts and new cars. One of the manufacturer who has been busy throughout the month was Tata Motors. They launched the all-new premium hatchback Altroz, along with facelifted versions of Tata Tiago, Tata Tiago and Tata Nexon with BS6 compliant engine. They also launched their first fully electric compact SUV Nexon EV last week. The next big launch that is awaited from the homegrown manufacturer is the Tata Gravitas SUV which will be unveiled at the upcoming Auto Expo in February. Gravitas has been spotted testing many times and this time around it was spotted with a Land Rover Discovery.
The video has been uploaded by Samridh Tiwari on his youtube channel. According to the video, the car was spotted testing near Pune. Video shows the rear of the upcoming gravitas which is under heavy camouflage. The rear of the Gravitas look very similar to the Harrier. The car from which the video was shot could not keep up with the speed of the Gravitas. After some time, Gravitas is joined by another test vehicle which is the Land Rover Discovery.
Harrier which got launched last year is also based on Land Rover’s D8 platform and the upcoming Gravitas will also use the very same platform. Land Rover Discovery and the Gravitas looked almost the same in terms of size in the video which means the Gravitas is going to be a big vehicle. From the images it seems like the upcoming Gravitas will get an alloy wheel similar to the one seen on Harrier.
Gravitas is going to look similar to the Harrier in terms of design. It will get the same dual function DRL on the top with headlights placed on the lower part of the bumper. The change however would be the addition of third row of seats. It will accommodate 6 people and will compete with Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming MG Hector plus. It will get a list of features that we have seen in Harrier already. Apart from that it might get a sunroof in the higher trims.
The Gravitas will also get the same 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine that we have seen in Harrier except in this case, it will produce 173 Ps and 350 Nm of torque. It might get an automatic transmission as Tata will unveil the Harrier with an automatic transmission at the Expo. It is not known if Gravitas will get an AWD system or would be a 2WD vehicle like Harrier.
