Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 launched: Almost Rs 1 lakh pricier than before

Mahindra has a wide range of UVs in their line up and they have been working on updating all their models to meet the new BS6 emission norms. The latest vehicle from the brand to get this update is the Alturas G4 luxury SUV which happens to be the flagship model from the brand. The price for the Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 now starts at Rs 28.69 lakh, ex-showroom. With BS6 updates, the price of the Alturas has definitely gone up. The BS6 version of the luxury SUV is now almost Rs 1 lakh more dearer than the BS4 version.

Starting with the looks first, the BS6 version of the Alturas G4 SUV looks identical to the older BS4 version. No cosmetic changes are made to the car from the outside and gets the same big, butch and premium look on the outside. It still gets the machine cut alloy wheels, LED tail lights, skid plates both at the front and the rear.

On the inside, the Alturas G4 offers all the features that are expected from a luxury SUV. It gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather wrapped interiors, sunroof, electrically adjustable seats, ventilation function on seats, dual zone climate control, 9 airbags, ABS, EBD, 360 degree camera, ESP, HSA, front parking sensors, traction control and so on. Alturas is a huge SUV and can seat upto 7 passengers.

Mahindra offers the Alturas G4 in two variants. A 2WD and a top-end 4WD version. The 2WD version is priced at Rs 28.69 lakh, ex-showroom and the 4WD version is priced at Rs 31.69 lakh, ex-showroom. Both the version are powered by the same engine. The Alturas G4 is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine which generates a maximum of 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque. It still retains the Mercedes-Benz sourced, 7-speed automatic gearbox.

Mahindra Alturas G4 was launched in 2018 and is basically a rebadged version of the Ssangyong Rexton SUV. The Alturas G4 as mentioned above is a luxury SUV and competes with cars like  recently launched Tiguan All Space, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and Skoda Kodiaq in the segment. The Alturas has been a tepid seller right from the outset, and this mainly has to do with the fact that the Mahindra badge is yet to command the same cred as say a Ford or a Toyota in the luxury SUV segment. As an SUV, the Alturas is quite capable, spacious and well built.
