Kia Motors sells 1 lakh units of the Seltos & Carnival combined in India: Breaks a record

Ever since it entered the Indian car market last year, Kia Motors had a dream run with their Seltos SUV. Later, Kia launched the Carnival luxury MPV, which is also doing good in terms of numbers. Kia Motors is now celebrating the historic milestone of one lakh sales in India. The company becomes the fastest automaker in India to reach this landmark in just eleven months since the launch of its debut car last year, a record number for any new entrant to achieve in such a short time. This is actually evidence of how popular the brand has become among customers in a short span of time.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Kookhyun Shim, MD and CEO, Kia Motors India said,

2019 marked an important year for Kia as we introduced our first car for the Indian market with an aim to become a household name in the country. We are overwhelmed with the response and acceptance that Indian customers have shown towards us. Reaching the one lakh milestone with just two products, in a record eleven-month time, is a testament to our commitment to India. Today marks a proud moment for all of us at Kia Motors India and after the immense success of Seltos and Carnival, we are confident to keep up the positive momentum and lead the Indian automobile industry by addressing the unmet needs and aspirations of the customers with the upcoming Kia Sonet.

Kia launched their first car Seltos in the Indian market back in 2019 and it immediately changed things and created a market for itself. Within just 2 months of its launch, the Seltos emerged as the highest selling SUV in the segment and marked the South Korean automaker’s entry in the esteemed list of top 5 carmakers in India. In the last 11 months, Kia has sold 97,745 units of Seltos and 3,614 units of Carnival bringing the total figure to 1,01,359 units.

The Seltos competes with cars such as Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier in the mid-size segment. It is available with a 1.5 litre petrol (manual & CVT), 1.5 litre diesel (manual & torque converter) and a 1.4 litre turbo petrol (manual & DCT) engine options. The Carnival, on the other hand, is a spacious luxury MPV that is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine. Kia is all set to launch their third product – the Sonet sub-4 meter compact SUV in India on 7th August 2020.
