India’s first all-new 2020 Mahindra Thar sold for Rs 1.1 crore

Mahindra and Mahindra unveiled the all-new, second-generation Thar in August 2020. The first unit of the all-new Mahindra Thar was auctioned to raise funds for social causes. Over 5,400 individuals participated and registered themselves and the vehicle was sold for Rs 1.1 crore!

The reserve price for the first Mahindra Thar was Rs 25 lakhs and the amount of the bid was in multiples of Rs 25,000. On the first day of the auction, the bid crossed Rs 80 lakh mark. Over the next five days, various people bid on the vehicle to reach the final bid amount of Rs 1.1 crore.

The winner of the auction is Aakash Minda, who will now let Mahindra know about the exact variant and colour option that he wants. The first vehicle with the #1 badging on a steel plate will be given to the owner. It will also get customised bashing with the winner’s initials and regardless of the variant, Mahindra will offer leatherette seats in the vehicle.

The winning bid, which is Rs 1.1 crore will be matched by Mahindra and the proceedings will be donated to Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation or the PM Cares Fund as chosen by the winner. The details the same are expected to follow soon.

The price of the all-new Mahindra Thar will be announced on 2nd October and that’s when the official bookings will open for the SUV. The all-new Mahindra Thar will be launched with two new engine options and it also gets a new ladder-frame chassis. For the first time, the Mahindra Thar also gets a petrol engine and an automatic transmission option. The Mahindra Thar gets a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 152 PS and peak torque of 320 Nm. The diesel variants get the 2.2-litre mHawk engine that generates a maximum power of 132 PS and peak torque of 320 Nm. Both the engine options will get an automatic as well as a manual transmission. Mahindra will also offer 4X4 option with all the variants of the Mahindra Thar. Also, the low-ratio transfer case is standard with all the variants.

The new Thar gets first-time features like front-facing rear seats, touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control system, and a lot of other such features. The all-new Thar is expected to get a price tag of around Rs 12 lakhs for the base variant while the top-end version is expected to get a price tag of around Rs 15 lakhs.
