Hyundai has been very successful in the Indian market. Their market share for 2020 has gone up from 16.9 percent to 17 percent when compared to 2019. This is due to the fact that their recent launches have been successful. The recently launched Hyundai i20 which is an all-new model from the ground up received a very good response from the market even after being on the expensive side. They have been able to gather 20,000 bookings in just 20 days and 80 percent customers have opted to go for the higher trims. They launched the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura which also were received quite well. Then there was the Hyundai Creta which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. The SUV was able to take its number one position back from the rivals like the Kia Seltos and the MG Hector. The Korean manufacturer will be launching three new vehicles in the Indian market to stay competitive. All three of them will belong to different segments. Today we list all the three down:
Alcazar (Creta 7-seater)
With the Creta being a huge success in the market. Hyundai is planning to launch a 7-seater version of it. As of now, Hyundai does not have a 7-seater vehicle in the Indian market. So, there is no competition from Hyundai to compete against the Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Tata Gravitas. The manufacturer has registered the name “Alcazar” for its upcoming 7-seater. The new SUV has been spied testing on the international roads and soon make its way to our roads. The front design language resembles a lot to the current generation of Creta. So, it gets Hyundai’s cascading grille, C-shaped split LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, fog lamps and a faux skid plate. The side profile stays more or less the same with some new alloy wheel design. However, one thing that you would notice from the side profile is the longer overhang which is done to accommodate the third-row of seats. The biggest change you will see is at the rear, where it will get larger LED tail lamps, redesigned rear bumper and a faux rear skid plate. The twin-tip exhausts will be same that we have seen on the Creta Turbo.

Powering the Alcazar will be the 1.4-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo petrol engine will produce 140 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 242 Nm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 115 PS of max power and peak torque output of 250 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. We are expecting that Hyundai will also offer the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine on the lower trims. The engine produces 115 PS of max power and 144 Nm. Hyundai Alcazar will be priced from around Rs. 13.2 lakhs ex-showroom for the base variant, while top-end variant will cost you around Rs. 19.9 lakhs ex-showroom.
AX1
Hyundai AX1 as it is being internally called is a new micro-SUV from the Korean manufacturer. The trend of SUVs is very strong currently. Due to this the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso was a great success in the market and Tata also showcased the HBX Concept which generated a lot of attention around it. Hyundai also wants a part of this segment and so they are working on a new small affordable SUV. The new small SUV was recently spotted being transported on international roads. The design will be inspired by the Hyundai Venue. So, it will get a split headlamp where the slim LED Daytime Running Light will be placed above and the square headlamp will be placed below. It will have a tall driving position and a tall boy design so headroom should not be an issue. The door handles will be placed on the C-pillar just like we have seen on the Tata Altroz and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The lower variants of the will be powered by the 1.1-litre petrol engine that we have also seen on the Santro. The engine produces 69 PS of max power and 99 Nm of peak torque. The higher variants will get the 1.2-litre petrol engine that is doing duty on the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20 and other Hyundai vehicles. The engine produces 83 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
MPV
Hyundai still does not have a Multi-Purpose Vehicle in its line-up. This will be a first for Hyundai. There is not much known about the MPV. From the spy shots, we can see that the MPV will get rear sliding doors, diamond-cut alloy wheels and angular styling. At the front, we can see sleek LED headlamps, a huge grille and fog lamp housing. The interior gets the same steering wheel as the new generation Creta. It will come with a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, second row AC, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster on the higher variants and much more.
It might also offer captain seats for its second rows which will add to the premium experience. We think that the new MPV will be going against the Toyota Innova Crysta as the MPV will sit below the Kia Carnival which offers a lot more premium features. Powering the MPV will be the same 1.5-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engine that is available on the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
