MG Motor to launch 4 SUVs in 2021

MG Motor disrupted the Indian SUV market when they launched the Hector. It was the first car to launch in India that had internet connectivity. They also launched the ZS EV which was an electric crossover. They launched the Hector Plus which was a more premium version of the Hector. The most recent launch from the manufacturer was the Gloster, which is a full-size SUV. The SUV is unique in its segment because it offers ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System. However, the competition is now increasing with other manufacturers also launching new products and adding more features and equipment to their vehicles. Kia launched the Seltos and then the Hyundai launched the Creta which overtook the Hector. The Gloster has to still prove itself against big rivals like the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner, which will also be getting a facelift in January 2021. Fortunately, MG Motor is working on a new range of products for the Indian market. There will be 4 new products that we know of which should be launching in 2021 and today we list them down.

 Hector Plus 4×4

As we covered earlier that the MG Motor is working on a 4×4 variant for the Hector Plus. The manufacturer will be introducing all-wheel-drive and ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System features from the Gloster to the Hector Plus. They will introduce a new top-end variant named Savvy which will sit above the Sharp variant. This will make the Hector Plus, the cheapest vehicle to offer an advanced driver assistance system. This is being done so that the Hector Plus can be a worthy contender to the upcoming Mahindra 2021 XUV500 which will also be offering an all-wheel-drive powertrain and ADAS features. Launching the Hector Plus before the XUV500 will give MG Motors a first-mover advantage over Mahindra. The new variant might start from around Rs. 19.5 lakhs ex-showroom.

 Hector Plus 7-seater

MG Motor will be launching a 7-seater version of the Hector Plus. The second-row captain seats will be replaced by a bench seat that could seat three persons at once. The 7-seater option will only be offered with a Super and Sharp variant. There will be no mechanical changes to the SUV and the feature set will also remain the same. MG Hector Plus 7-seater is expected to launch in January 2021.

 ZS Petrol

MG Motor offers the ZS as an electric vehicle currently due to which it is priced on the higher side. It will soon be coming with a petrol engine for the Indian market. It will not look like the current ZS EV that is sold in our country because we will get the facelifted version of the ZS with an internal combustion engine. There will be no diesel engine on offer. There will be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for the lower variants. MG also offers 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with the ZS. However, there is still no information which turbocharged engine will make its way to the Indian market. The new SUV will be launching sometime next year. MG ZS Petrol is expected to start from Rs. 12 lakhs ex-showroom.

 Hector Facelift

MG Hector has been on sale for quite some time now due to which it has lost its touch when compared to more modern and striking competitors. Fortunately, MG Motors is working on Hector’s facelift which is expected to hit the Indian market in early 2021. It gets a new revised front grille and larger sized diamond-cut alloy wheels. This is being done to improve the stance of the SUV. There will be no mechanical changes to the facelift. The SUV was recently spotted on a TVC shoot, about which you can read more by clicking here.
