Tata Motors will finally be launching the more powerful version of the Altroz on 13th January 2021. The new variant has been spied quite a few times and many people have been waiting for the turbo engine since the Altroz was launched back in January of 2020. The new variant will be launching next month and will be offered with new paint schemes.
Tata Altroz Turbo will be powered by the same 1.2-litre that we have seen on the Nexon. It is a turbocharged unit that produces 120 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 170 Nm in the Nexon. However, for the Altroz Turbo, Tata has detuned the engine. This could have been done because Altroz weighs less and also in favour of fuel efficiency. The engine will be producing 110 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata will also be offering a 7-speed Dual-Clutch automatic gearbox which will be a first for Tata Motors. The same gearbox is also expected to be offered in the Nexon on a later stage.
Tata Motors also launched a teaser of the Altroz Turbo on their YouTube channel, more about which you can read by clicking here. We can see a Tata Altroz Turbo in Marina BLue colour with the roof painted black, suggesting that Tata will be offering dual-paint options with the new variant. There are no cosmetic changes made to the premium hatchback except the paint schemes and ‘Turbo’ badging on the boot. We still do not know if Tata will be tweaking the interior of the Altroz to a more sporty one or not. We do not think that there will be any feature added to the Altroz. So, it will continue to offer projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, steering mounted controls, cruise control, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, mood lighting, driving modes, front fog lamps with cornering function, keyless entry, rear AC vents, semi-digital instrument cluster and a lot more. The 7-inch infotainment system is sourced from Harman. It gets Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice commands and notification alerts. Altroz has already proved its safety by scoring 5-star Global NCAP rating. It is currently the safest premium hatchback that you can buy.

Currently, the Altroz is offered with two engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Unlike some competitors, Tata still offers a diesel engine with the Altroz. It is a 1.5-litre diesel engine unit from the Nexon that has been detuned. It produces 90 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 200 Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata Altroz starts from Rs. 5.44 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way till Rs. 8.95 lakhs ex-showroom. The Turbo variant is expected to start from 8 lakhs ex-showroom. Tata Altroz Turbo will be competing with the Hyundai i20 Turbo and the Volkswagen Polo TSI.
