Tata Motors has begun dispatching the all-new Safari SUV to dealerships across the country in the run up to the vehicle’s launch. The idea behind this is to give prospective buyers a look and feel of the new SUV. Bookings for the all-new Tata Safari are open across all Tata Motors dealerships across India, and the vehicle will be launched soon. The prices of the new Safari will be announced at launch. For now, Tata Motors has officially unveiled the SUV, and has also indicated the variants that will go on sale shortly. Here, check out the all-new Safari at a Tata dealership in the South of India.
The all-new Tata Safari is based on the Harrier’s OMEGARC platform. It’s not just the platform that the new Safari shares with the Harrier but also the mechanicals. The all-new Safari uses the same 2 liter Fiat Multijet engine found on the Harrier. On the Safari, this turbocharged diesel engine will make an identical 170 Bhp-350 Nm, and will be offered with 2 gearbox options: a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter automatic sourced from Hyundai.

Both gearboxes will drive the front wheels of the all-new Safari, and an all wheel drive layout will not be offered even as an option as Tata Motors is yet to figure out a way of integrating an all wheel drive layout with the new platform. Notably, the OMEGARC platform is derived from Land Rover’s LS550 platform, which underpins the current generation Discovery Sport. The platform has been localized with specific changes to suit the Indian market.
The all-new Safari is offered with two seating layouts: a 6 seat layout that consists of four captain seats in the first two rows and a double bench seat in the third row, and a 7 seat layout that consists of two captain seats in the front row, a three seat bench in the second row and a two seat bench making for the third row. To make the interiors airier, Tata Motors has chosen to raise the roofline of the all-new Safari, and this is a key change in the top-hat of the vehicle, differentiating it from the Harrier. This change also gives the all-new Safari a raised roofline reminiscent of what the older generation Safari used to offer.
As for variants, the all-new Tata Safari will be offered in six trims: XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. Even the base XE trim is quite well equipped, and gets the following features: Dual front airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, rollover mitigation, traction control, rear disc brakes, rear parking sensors, central locking, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, projector headlights, Daytime Running Lamps and roof rails as standard, cornering stability control, brake disc wiping, ABS with EBD, perimetric alarm system, power windows, 60:40 split for second-row seats, 50:50 split for third-row seats and a smart charger for the second and third row. There is also a ‘boss-mode’ which moves the front passenger seat forward from the rear. The higher variants offer a lot more, making the all-new Safari a very well-rounded SUV. Over to the launch now.
