Dacia, a budget brand from Renault has just showcased the Bigster Concept. The new Concept SUV measures 4.6 metres in length, which is the same length as the upcoming Tata Safari. The design of the new SUV does resemble a bigger version of the Renault Duster or the Dacia Duster. Yes, the Duster is a product of Dacia, which was rebranded as Renault and launched in India. The Bigster Concept is one of the three new models that will be launched by the Dacia.
“The Dacia Bigster Concept epitomises the evolution of the brand. Essentially, with a touch of cool and an outdoor spirit. It proves that accessible isn’t opposed by any means to attractiveness. At Dacia we believe so, and this car is the proof.” said Dacia’s design boss, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.
The Bigster is based on the CMF-B platform that is co-developed by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The same platform will be used for all the new models from Dacia. Future models from Dacia will also offer powertrains powered by alternate fuels.

The new Concept is described as “the Dacia way of making the C-segment accessible, delivering a larger, more capable vehicle at the cost buyers would expect from the segment below”. This is the same approach that they took with the Duster. It is the cheapest and one of the most capable and rugged mid-size SUVs in India.
It has proved itself over off-road too with its 4×4 powertrain and a potent diesel engine which was known for its reliability. Unfortunately, the 4×4 variant is now discontinued as the diesel engines were replaced by a new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 156 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 254 Nm.
Speaking of the Bigster Concept itself, it is wide and has a butch and rugged look to it. It gets new Y-shaped LED headlamps that combine right in with the sleek grille. The air intake is large and is flanked by sleek vertical air vents that smooth out the airflow.
From the side, we can see the boxy and upright design. We can see the high ground clearance and short overhangs, making the SUV quite capable off-road. There is a huge glass area that opens up a sense of airiness throughout the cabin.
The fenders are pronounced and trapezoidal wheel arches are a new design element. It also gets roof rails which we expect to be functional on the production-spec model. The Y-shaped elements are continued on the alloy wheels also. At the rear, there is a huge skid plate, flat tailgate and V-shaped LED tail lamps.
The new SUV is quite a bit longer than the current Duster, which means that there is a chance that Dacia also offers third-row seating. If Renault decides to launch the production-spec of the Bigster in India, it will definitely sit above the Duster but should cost a bit less money than other SUVs as this was a huge reason for Duster to be a huge success in the Indian market when it was first launched.
