2021 Tata Safari as a Pickup Truck: What it would look like

Tata Motors will be launching the all new Safari in the market on February 22. The SUV was unveiled last month and a detailed review of the SUV is available on our website. Tata had only announced in January that their new 7-seater SUV will be getting the name of their iconic SUV Safari. There are currently mixed emotions among those who loved the Safari. In the past couple of weeks we have seen several render videos and images of Safari being re-imagined in different versions. Here we have another render image that shows the upcoming SUV might look like, if Tata were to launch an off-road Pickup truck version of 2021 Safari.

The all-new Safari by no means is a hardcore off-roader. It has got terrain response mode and ample ground clearance to do mild off-roading only. The render here actually re-imagines it as an off-roader truck. The render image has been shared by Ayush Dubey on his Instagram page. The render actually gives the new Safari a much more butch look. The front end of the SUV gets the same tri-arrow design grille with chrome all over it.

The bumper however has been replaced with an aftermarket off-road unit. The bumper gets a black finish and the silver colour skid plate at the bottom gives it extra protection during off-roading. The bumper and the skid plate itself has elevated the look of the SUV. Ayush has also replaced the stock wheels and tyres on Safari with all black multi spoke alloy wheels with chunky looking all-terrain tyres. The cladding around the wheel arch has been given a gloss black treatment.

Safari pickup is imagined as a four door pickup truck but, looking at the image it looks like the rear seat passengers won’t have much space their. There is a metal footboard for making entry and exit from the SUV easier. It looks like the ground clearance on the SUV has also been increased. Moving to the rear, third row seats have been removed and the roof has also been chopped off. There are metal bar on left and right side of the loading area. The rear of Safari pickup is not visible but, it looks like the tail lamps are different from the one seen in Haarier of Safari.

The render looks pretty good as it goes well with the overall look of the SUV. It should be made clear that, Tata currently has no plans to launch a pick up version of Safari in the market. This is just a render image. Coming back to Safari, it is actually based on the same platform as Harrier. In terms of dimensions, Safari is longer and taller than Harrier. On the inside, the Safari offers features like electronic parking brakes, huge panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable seats, auto dimming IRVM, touchscreen infotainment screen, JBL speakers, leather wrapped seats and steering wheel and so on. Safari gets white and grey interiors which gives it an airy look on the inside.

Tata Safari is available with a diesel engine only. It is powered by the same 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine option that powers Harrier. It generates a maximum of 170 Ps and 350 Nm of peak torque. Safari is available with both manual and automatic transmission. It will compete with SUVs like MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500 and upcoming Hyundai Creta 7-seater in the market.
