Hyundai Alcazar Vs Mahindra XUV500 Vs Tata Safari Vs MG Hector Plus: Which SUV should you buy?

The seven-seater mid-size SUV segment is getting populated with new cars in recent years. With Hyundai announcing the arrival of the all-new Alcazar, the segment is likely to grow in size even further. But with so many options around, we are sure that it will confuse a buyer. If you’re planning to buy a vehicle from this segment, here is something that will help you choose your next car from this segment.

Tata Safari

Buy it if you want a value-for-money diesel 7-seater automatic

Yes, the Tata Safari is back and this time it is quite different from the earlier version. Tata has launched the all-new Safari to attract the masses. The price starts at Rs 14.69 lakh but the diesel-automatic starts at Rs 17.25 lakh. Tata offers the brand-new Safari only with a diesel engine option. The 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine is the same as the Harrier and it generates a maximum power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Tata offers a manual as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission with the Safari and we have to say that the diesel-automatic combination is the best in the segment. It offers the best gear shifts too. The Safari is decently spacious and offers six seats with all the variants except the top two variants.

MG Hector Plus

Buy it for 7-seating option and petrol engine

MG launched the Hector Plus based on the Hector and it is available with both 6 and 7 seater variants. MG also offers petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine option is the same as the Tata Safari but MG does not offer an automatic transmission with the diesel variants. Nonetheless, Hector’s strong point lies in its feature’s list and it gets a long list of features including a massive infotainment system. The Hector Plus gets the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 141 Bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. It is available with a range of transmissions – Manual, CVT and DCT. Only the Alcazar will offer a DCT in this segment.

Mahindra XUV500

Buy it for its price and strong road presence

The Mahindra XUV500 is an old and ageing product and the new one is getting ready too. The all-new XUV500 will get launched in the Indian market sometime by the end of this year or early next year. While the XUV500 became so popular after its launch that Mahindra had to draw a lottery to choose the names of the future owners of the car. Well, the XUV500 is not doing too well at present due to extreme competition in the market. However, the XUV500 does have a benefit and that’s its cost. It starts at Rs 13.83 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Sadly, Mahindra has stopped offering AWD with the BS6 update. The all-new XUV500 will be a tough competitor in the segment and may bring back the demand that the car had seen in the initial days of its launch.

Hyundai Alcazar

Buy it for its long feature list

Hyundai just announced the Alcazar SUV. It will be based on the Hyundai Creta and will get as many as seven seats. The Alcazar will offer a massive list of features just like the Creta including a massive panoramic sunroof, modern-looking dashboard, BlueLink connected features, ventilated seats, wireless charger and the list goes on. Hyundai is expected to launch the Alcazar with the same petrol and diesel engine options that also powers the Creta and yes, it will get a number of transmission options too. Hyundai will launch the all-new Alcazar in the coming weeks so the launch is not too far away.
