New Mahindra Scorpio to be launched before the all-new XUV500

Mahindra is updating its portfolio for the Indian market. They have already launched the new generation of Thar and the petrol AMT for the XUV300. A petrol engine and an automatic transmission for the Marazzo is also on the way. However, the most awaited products from the homegrown manufacturer are the new generations of Scorpio and the XUV500. As per the latest reports, the new generation of Scorpio will be launching in June 2021 whereas the XUV500’s new generation will be launching in September 2021.

Earlier, it was expected that Mahindra will be launching the XUV500 will be launching sometime in mid of 2021 and the Scorpio will be launching in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, now the time frame has been reversed for both vehicles. We also know that XUV500 will be launching in September while the deliveries will start in November 2021. You can read more about this by clicking here.

The possible reason that we can think of the launch swapping is the shortage of semiconductors that the world is facing. The XUV500 will require more semiconductors because it will have more features and electrical equipment as compared to the Scorpio which will not be as feature equipped as the XUV500. Thus, requiring fewer semiconductors.

The Thar has already faced a shortage of semiconductors. Due to which Mahindra shipped the Thars without an infotainment system and it was later installed by the dealerships themselves. You can read more about the story by clicking here.

Both the SUVs have been spotted testing quite a few times on our Indian roads. They have been spotted on various tests such as extreme weather testing, high altitude testing and high-speed testing. These tests are important to ensure that the vehicles are reliable and do not let down the vehicles.

Scorpio

The 2021 Scorpio will be based on a reworked version of the ladder frame chassis. It will be bigger in dimensions which will help in increasing the road presence and it will also look dominating on the road. It will get dual-pod LED projector headlamps, C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps that surround the fog lamps and Mahindra’s unique grille.

Powering the 2021 Scorpio will be the same set of petrol and diesel engine as the Thar. The petrol engine should produce around 160 PS of max power and the diesel engine will produce around 140 PS. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The engines are in a higher state of tune because the Scorpio is a bigger vehicle when compared to the Thar.

XUV500

The XUV500 will be more upmarket than the current one. It will get a similar design language as the current one but will look modern. It will have an imposing front-end design with LED headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lamps. There will be Mahindra’s 6-slat grille and LED fog lamps too.

The interior looks much more premium with soft-touch materials and dual screens in the dashboard. Powering the XUV500 will also be the same set of engines but in their highest state of tune. The petrol engine will put out close to 190 PS while the diesel engine will put out 160 PS of max power. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
