New Volkswagen Tiguan SUV for India revealed

Volkswagen has just unveiled the Tiguan Facelift for the Indian market. The 5-seater SUV was discontinued last year due to BS6 emission norms. However, now it is back in its new avatar. The Tiguan gets a redesigned exterior and a new engine so that it now complies with BS6 emission norms. The new SUV is expected to go on sale later this year.

Mr. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said “We are delighted to announce that customers can now book their favorite SUV T-Roc, through our online retail platform or our dealership network across India. We have also announced a unique initiative offering our customers an opportunity to register their interest for our most anticipated SUVW, the Volkswagen Taigun and the New Tiguan. 2021 is a significant year for Volkswagen India and with this announcement, we are a step closer to fulfilling our commitment of delivering 4-SUVs by the end of 2021.”

The Tiguan is now powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that produces a max power output of 190 PS and a peak torque output of 320 Nm. The power will be transferred to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG Dual Clutch Gearbox. It also gets paddle shifters so you can take control of the gearbox yourself. It comes with a 4Motion four-wheel-drive system.

It comes with loads of features such as a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with 30 colours, Vienna leather upholstery, illuminated scuff plates and much more. There is also a lot of safety tech on offer. It comes with a hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto-hold, 6 airbags and ISOFIX mounts. It also gets an Anti-lock braking system, Electronic Stability Program, ESR, Driver Alert System and EDL.

The cabin is also updated with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is also three-zone climate control, electrical adjustment for the driver seat, multi-function steering wheel, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers and much more. The SUV will also now come with connected car technology.

It also comes with new LED headlights that feature Volkswagen IQ Light technology. It gets Matrix lights, dynamic cornering lights, LED Daytime Running Lamps and weather lights. There are twin-pod LEDs in the headlamps that are entirely redesigned. It now looks more attractive with the new grille that integrates with the headlamps. The air dam and the faux skid plate is finished in silver colour.

There are also new 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels. You also get roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. At the rear, you get LED tail lamps, a rear wiper with a washer and a chrome garnish. The LED elements in the tail lamps look similar to the previous one. However, Volkswagen has updated those elements if you look closely. You also get ‘Tiguan’ spelt out at the rear.

Upcoming SUVs

Volkswagen also showcased the Taigun which is a mid-size SUV and will go against the upcoming Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Tata Harrier. It gets its design elements from the Tiguan and other Volkswagen models. The manufacturer will also be bringing back Tiguan AllSpace and the T-Roc by importing them.
