Upcoming Skoda Kodiaq Facelift: Official sketches released ahead of launch

Skoda has showcased the Kushaq which is a mid-size SUV for the Indian market. They will soon be revealing the price of the Kushaq. The next SUV that Skoda will be launching is the Kodiaq which will be their flagship. The SUV is expected to be revealed on April 13th.

The sketches only show us the exterior of the SUV. At the front, there is Skoda’s butterfly grille, which is wider, sleeker and comes with a chrome surround. Skoda’s badge is not placed in the grille. Instead, it sits at the front of the bonnet which also comes with two character lines that meet with the Butterfly grille.

There are new LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps that are sleeker than the predecessor. The fog lights are placed just below the headlamps. This is done to give a four-eyed face. You would see this face on other Skoda SUVs also. The Karoq and the Kushaq also come with a similar face.

The front bumper has been changed and is now sleeker but wider too. This has been done to increase the size of the air dam so that more air could be fed to the engine. At the end of the bumper, you get two inverted L-shape elements and aluminium insert too.

The side profile gets new alloy wheels and a strong shoulder line that starts from the end of the front headlamp and goes all the way till back. The rear of the SUV is not yet revealed. However, the manufacturer has shown the design of the LED tail lamp which does look pretty good and the attention to detail is quite commendable.

The interior of the SUV is also not shown by Skoda. However, it will come with features like automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, removable cabin lamps, a microphone connected to speakers so that the front occupants can easily talk to the rear occupants.

The launch of the SUV was postponed because of supply chain issues. Earlier, Kodiaq was supposed to be launched in early 2021 but it was pushed back by few months. This information was shared by Zac Hollis, Director of Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda Auto India.

More importantly, he also shared that the SUV will be entering the Indian market in the third quarter with a more powerful petrol engine. Skoda will be offering the Kodiaq with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. The engine produces 190 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 320 Nm. It will be offered only with a 7-speed DSG Dual-Clutch automatic gearbox.

The previous generation of Kodiaq was only offered with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. It used to produce 147 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 340 Nm. It was also offered only with a 7-speed DSG Dual-clutch gearbox and the power was transferred to all four wheels through a torque-on-demand AWD system. The Skoda Kodiaq will compete against the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, Volvo XC40, MG Gloster, Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and BMW X1.
