Ford India launched the Ecosport SE recently which is a new variant in the compact SUVs line-up. This was done to make the Ecosport look a bit more modern as its design language has started showing its age. Now, according to reports, the manufacturer is also working on updating the S variant soon. The S variant is the top of the line variant for the Ecosport. Ford will be offering more equipment with the S variant. The launch timeline for the updated variant is not yet revealed.
Ford will be working on a new front bumper design for the S variant. The tail lamps will be replaced with new LED tail lamps which should look much better than the current ones and will have high visibility too. There will be new LED Daytime Running Lamps that will sit below the headlamps. There will also be some new alloy wheels that will fill the wheel wells. The rest of the exterior will stay the same. The changes to the cabin will also be minimal except there will be a new touchscreen infotainment system about which no information is available as of now.
The Ecosport starts at Rs. 8.19 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 11.69 lakhs ex-showroom. With the new update, the price of the S variant is expected to increase. The Ecosport currently goes against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Toyota Urban Cruiser.

There will be no changes to any mechanicals of the Ecosport. So, it will continue to come with be offered with a diesel and a naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both the engine measures 1.5-litres in capacity. The petrol engine produces 122 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 149 Nm. The engine is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard although you can get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The diesel engine produces 100 PS of max power and 215 Nm of peak torque. It is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is no automatic transmission available with the diesel engine.
The Ecosport is offered in six variants. There is Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, Titanium+, SE and S. Only the Titanium+ variant is offered with an automatic gearbox only. You cannot get the manual gearbox with it. The design of the Ecosport might have started to show its age but it still packs in a lot of equipment.
For safety, it comes with up to six airbags with dual airbags being standard. There is an Anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, seatbelt reminders, rear parking sensors with rear parking camera, high-speed alert system, seat belt pretensioners and a lot more.
For features, there are automatic headlamps, electric adjustment for outside rearview mirrors, 12V accessory socket, electrochromic interior rearview mirror, electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, multi-function steering wheel, puddle lamps, tyre pressure monitoring system and more. Depending on the variant you can get an SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system or 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and HID headlamps or projector headlamps.
