Citroen recently launched the C5 AirCross in the Indian market, which will be their flagship offering for our country. Because it is relatively a premium vehicle and has been priced on the expensive side, not a lot many people would be able to afford it. Fortunately, Citroen knows this and they are already working on a more budget-oriented compact-SUV for our country. The new vehicle has been codenamed CC21 and has already been spotted on our Indian roads. Here, is a render that has been based on the spy shots.
The render does look quite good and attractive. The paint scheme of blue with orange accents is similar to the one found on Renault Kwid Climber. However, the CC21 will be positioned higher than the Kwid because it will sit a segment higher. Vincent CobĂ©e, General Manager of Citroen has already said, “credible for someone who spends 10,000 euros”. For reference, 10,0000 euros roughly translated to just under Rs. 9 lakhs. So, expect the CC21 to compete against the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 300, Ford Ecosport and Kia Sonet.
The Citroen CC21 will come with very rounded proportions. In the renders, we can see that the upper chrome strips starts from above the headlamp and ends up forming the upper part of Citroen’s logo. The second chrome strip starts in the centre of the logo and ends up outlining the main headlamp unit.

There is a hexagonal grille which is quite large and takes a big space in the front bumper. There are two fog lamps placed that gets a surround finished in orange. The overall front of the render does look nice. Although, from the spy shots, it is likely that Citroen will offer Daytime Running Lamps in the split headlamp setup. So, the Daytime Running Lamp strip will sit above and the main headlamp unit will sit below separately.
Then we come to the side where we can see boxy wheel arches with thick plastic cladding. There is also a lot of cladding used on the doors. This gives a rugged look to the vehicle. The render is using wheel covers instead of alloy wheels. The wheel covers are finished in black but they get five orange hexagons. All four door handles are in their traditional position. The outside rearview mirrors are also finished in orange while the roof rails are finished in silver.
The CC21 will be using Citroen’s CMP or Common Modular Platform. Some of the design elements would be taken from the European-spec C3 AirCross. So, expect the design of the CC21 to carry some funky elements. Till now the new compact SUV has been spied with a lot of camouflage so the final design is still not known yet.
It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing around 100 PS of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque. We know that it will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There should also be an automatic transmission once the CC21 launches.
