Mahindra XUV 700 launch timeline revealed

The XUV 700 is one of the most hyped products that is going to launch soon. It is the successor to the XUV 500 which has been a huge success for Mahindra. We have been seeing the spy shots of the new SUV for quite some time now. According to ACI, the new SUV from Mahindra is going to launch in October 2021. The XUV 700 is expected to be positioned above the current XUV 500. Before the official revealing of the name, the XUV 700 was known as the W601.

The new XUV 700 gets some design elements from the XUV 500 which is a good thing because the XUV 500 was known for its aggressive design. So, you would be able to see a slight hint of the XUV 500’s characteristics in the XUV 700. For instance, the wide rear haunches above the wheel arch of the XUV 500 can also be seen in the XUV 700. The front design of the SUV is very aggressive with angular LED headlamps that will come with LED Daytime Running Lamps. The front grille is much bigger and comes with Mahindra’s 6-slat grille. The lower half of the bumper is relatively simpler with a wide and slim air dam and LED fog lamps. The bonnet of the SUV also has creases that flow into the A-pillar.

At the side, there will be some new alloy wheels, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. The XUV  700 will also come with flush-sitting door handles which are a first in the segment. The rear is upright and will get a traditional tailgate that opens upwards. It will come with LED tail lamps, a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp.

The interior will be a big step up when compared to the current XUV 500. Mahindra will be using plusher materials. So, expect the dashboard, centre armrest and door pads to feature some soft-touch materials. There will be leather upholstery with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever. There will also be a panoramic sunroof that will let in a lot of light to the cabin so that the occupants do not feel claustrophobic.

There will be dual horizontal screens like we have seen on some Mercedes-Benz models. The centre one will be a touchscreen infotainment system which should come with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and connected car technology. The second one will be a digital driver’s display that will show various vehicle-related information also.

Powering the XUV 700 will be a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The diesel engine is expected to produce somewhere around 185 PS whereas the petrol engine will be producing close to 190 PS. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

What happens to the current XUV500?

Mahindra has confirmed over Twitter that they will be ‘temporarily discontinuing’ the XUV 500 once the XUV 700 is introduced in the Indian market. There is a possibility that the XUV 500 returns in a 5-seater format. Mahindra might also offer the XUV 500 in fewer variants and at a lower price. As of now, it is not confirmed how the XUV 500 will be coming back.
