New Mahindra Thar receives 55,000 bookings in 8 months: 1 in 2 bookings for Automatic variants

Mahindra launched the all-new Thar in the market last year and it has received an overwhelming response from the customers. The all-new Mahindra Thar became so popular that now, there is a long waiting period on the SUV. The waiting period on the SUV is as long as an year. Meanwhile, Mahindra confirmed that, they have received over 55,000 bookings for the all-new Mahindra Thar. The Mahindra Thar, which is currently the most affordable 4×4 SUV in Indian market, managed to achieve this feat in eight months after the launch. Mahindra had officially launched the all-new Thar back in October 2020.

Another interesting thing that is noticed in these bookings is that 47 percent of the customers have opted for automatic variants. Lately, automatic transmissions are gaining popularity in Indian market. Mahindra offers automatic transmission with both petrol and automatic transmissions. Mahindra Thar comes with a 4×4 transfer as standard on both petrol and diesel variants.

Mahindra recently announced that they, will be launching a much more practical 5-door version of Mahindra Thar in the market. Other than Mahindra Thar 5-door, the manufacturer will be coming up with several new products like XUV700, Nex-gen Scorpio, New gen Bolero, Mahindra XUV Aero, Couple of EVs and other products.

The 5-door version of Mahindra Thar SUV is expected to be launched in the market some time in 2023. The 5-door version of Mahindra Thar is expected to look almost the same as the current 3-door version but, it will have a longer wheelbase and there is even a possibility that Mahindra might offer a 2WD version as an option. In terms of engine and gearbox, it will remain the same as the current three door version.

Mahindra Thar 3-door version quickly gained buyers attention because of its looks. It is based on a new platform and makes Thar wider and longer than the older version. The SUV has improved a lot in terms of build quality, fit and finish and features. It now comes with a company fitted hard top, convertible soft top, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment screen, roof mounted speakers, front facing seats for rear passengers and so on. All these features that are listed here were not present in the previous generation.

When launched, Mahindra was offering a 6-seater version with a jump seat for rear passenger. Manufacturer discontinued it in couple of months as it was compromising the safety of rear passenger. Mahindra Thar is also one of the safest off-roader in the segment. It had scored 4-star rating at Global NCAP crash test.

Mahindra is offering the all-new Mahindra Thar with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version is powered by a 2.0 litre, mStallion turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version is available with a 2.2 litre mHawk turbocharged engine that generates 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. Both versions come with manual and automatic gearbox option. Prices for the all-new Mahindra Thar starts at Rs 12.11 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 14.16 lakh, ex-showroom.
