Earlier this year, Mahindra officially announced the production name of the W601. The upcoming seven-seater will be officially known as the XUV700. Mahindra is testing the car for a long time in the Indian market under heavy camouflage but apart from the name, Mahindra is yet to announce any other details on the upcoming car. Well, here is everything know about the upcoming flagship from Mahindra.
Bigger than the current XUV500
The all-new XUV700 will be much bigger than the current XUV500. It will be larger in size and will have the full-seating capacity for the last row passengers. The all-new XUV700 will not be a replacement model of the XUV500 but it will be positioned much higher in the model line-up. In fact, it will be the most expensive vehicle from the Mahindra stable at the time of its launch in the Indian market.
Technologically-advanced

The all-new Mahindra XUV700 will be quite tech-savvy. From the spy pictures by Motoroids till now, a few parts of the vehicle’s cabin in production guise were revealed. It includes an all-digital instrument cluster too. The all-new Mahindra XUV500 will get a full-fledged digital instrument cluster. While the size of the panel is not known, it is likely to be around a 7-10 inch display. It will be a full TFT coloured display with a lot of animations. The display instrument cluster will extend to become the infotainment system. The design of the whole system is like what we get to see in modern-day Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Premium exterior
The all-new XUV700 will offer a lot of first-in-segment features. On the outside, the vehicle will get flush-type door handles. Now, none of the mass-segment vehicles offers this kind of premium feature. A flush-type door handle snugly sits on the body of the vehicle and remains almost invisible to the eyes. It sure is quite an interesting feature in the car. Only the top-end variant is likely to offer it. The most affordable vehicle to offer in India is a Range Rover Velar that costs close to Rs 1 crore.
Advanced Safety
Mahindra XUV300 became India’s safest vehicle after the official Global NCAP test. Recently, the all-new Thar also received a four-star safety rating. Now with the all-new XUV700, Mahindra will take the safety to a notch higher. Mahindra will start to offer the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which is only available with the MG Gloster in the mass-segment market. It will be a Level-2 ADAS and will offer various features like a blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control system, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, frontal collision warning, and possibly automatic emergency braking too.
High-end telematics
While Mahindra upgraded the Blue Sense system in the XUV300 and newly added features, it still is not as advanced as its rivals. Well, the XUV700 will come with a host of telematics features including remote TPMS, live tracking, geo-fencing, remote start/stop and more such features.
11 variants
Mahindra will offer a wide range of variants with the all-new XUV700. As per insider information by T-BHP, Mahindra will offer as many as 11 variants with the all-new XUV700. It will offer a wide range of choice to the customers including a base variant with a bare minimum feature list and a top-end fully-loaded version.
Most powerful engine options
While Mahindra is yet to announce the engine line-up, Mahindra will offer both petrol and diesel engine options with the all-new XUV700. Starting with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that will generate a maximum power of around 185 Bhp. The petrol variants will get the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that will generate a maximum of around 190 Bhp. Compared to the Hector Plus, Tata Safari and even the upcoming Alcazar, the XUV700 will be the most powerful.
Capable AWD
Mahindra will offer a capable all-wheel-drive system with the upcoming XUV700. It will get a host of modes based on the traction control system. However, it will not get the full-fledged 4X4 with a low ratio transfer case.
Current XUV500 will be discontinued
On the launch of the XUV700 in the Indian market, Mahindra will discontinue the current version of the XUV500. It will create a breathing space for the all-new vehicle. However, the XUV500 moniker will come back to the Indian market. Mahindra will launch an all-new version of the car in 2024. The all-new XUV500 will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the market.
Launch next year
Mahindra will launch the XUV700 next year. The launch has got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns across the country. However, the SUV is now set to launch in the second quarter of 2022.
