2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio: New launch timeline revealed

Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new generation of Celerio. The hatchback was first introduced in our country back in 2014 and was quite successful because it was the most affordable vehicle that came with an automatic transmission. But it never got any significant update since then. Now, Maruti Suzuki is all set to release a new generation of Celerio in September just before the festive season.

The first thing that people would notice is the radically changed design language. From the previously leaked patent images, we have a good idea about how the hatchback might look. The design now looks more like a traditional small hatchback. Maruti Suzuki has ditched the tall boy design for something more modern looking. The overall design looks more rounded just like Baleno.

There will be redesigned headlamps and tail lamps. Maruti Suzuki will still be using halogens instead of LEDs. Even the new Celerio is running on skinny tyres and this time there might be alloy wheels on the top-end variant. The cabin is also redesigned. It gets a new steering wheel from WagonR and manual air conditioning. The AC vents are now placed vertically just like we have seen on the WagonR. The lower variants will get a 2-din infotainment system while the top-end variant will come 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There will also be a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp.

Bigger dimensions

The Celerio is expected to grow in dimensions. Maruti Suzuki might underpin the Celerio with their HEARTECT platform which is being used on various vehicles like Swift, WagonR and Dzire. The new platform will also help in increasing the safety rating of the hatchback.

Engine options

Maruti Suzuki will continue to offer Celerio with the current 1.0-litre petrol engine. The engine produces 67 PS of max power and 91 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed AMT or a 5-speed manual gearbox. You would also be able to get an S-CNG variant which will come with the same 1.0-litre engine.

This time the manufacturer might also equip the Celerio with a more powerful 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine from WagonR, Swift and Dzire. The engine produces 83 PS and 113 Nm. This engine will also be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. This engine will make the Celerio a lot peppier and more fun to drive.

5 new cars coming soon

Maruti Suzuki is working on at least four more vehicles for the Indian market. They are working on a new mid-size SUV in collaboration with Toyota. The new SUV is expected to come with hybrid technology. Toyota will also sell its rebadged version of the new SUV.

There is an electric vehicle that has been spied on numerous occasions. The exact details of the EV are still not known. There will also be an all-new generation of Vitara Brezza because the current generation has not received a major facelift. There will also be a new compact-SUV based on Baleno which will sit below the new Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki is also working on bringing back its 1.5-litre diesel engine by next year. It will debut with the Ertiga and models like Vitara Brezza and Ciaz will follow.
