Citroen’s sub-4 meter compact SUV for India to be unveiled soon: Electric variant also coming

Citroen launched the C5 AirCross recently. However, it is their flagship product. They will soon be launching an economy car that has been codenamed CC21 and it falls under their ‘C Cubed’ program. The CC21 is specifically planned for developing countries. The spy shots of the new vehicle are already floating around the internet. According to the recent reports, the CC21 will be revealed in September 2021.

The CC21 seems to be a bit smaller than the other compact SUVs. So, it will be going against the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. The CC21 is expected to start from Rs. 6 lakhs ex-showroom and go all the way up to Rs 10 lakhs ex-showroom. Because of the pricing strategy, the CC21 will also compete against premium hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Baleno Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz.

Citroen is planning to launch the CC21 in foreign markets also. The spy shots have been clicked in India as well as in Europe. The CC21 will be based on the CMP platform that is being used to underpin a lot of Peugeot vehicles. CMP stands for Common Modular Platform and it is a very versatile platform. It can be used to underpin various body types and different powertrains so we can expect Citroen to use the same platform for its upcoming vehicles too. This will also help them in saving costs.

Then there is the engine. It is expected that Citroen will use a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine. The engine is expected to produce around 100 PS of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque. However, when launched these power figures can be different. We know that the engine will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and there should be an automatic transmission on offer also. It will be offered only as a front-wheel-drive vehicle. The engine would also be able to run on ethanol-blended petrol. So, it will be a flex-fuel engine. This will help in lowering carbon dioxide emissions.

Electric version also coming

Citroen will also be launching an electric version of the CC21. It has been codenamed eCC21. Because of the pandemic both the vehicles have been postponed. So, the eCC21 is now expected to be unveiled sometime in 2022. It will use the eCMP platform that is currently underpinning many electric vehicles in Europe such as DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, Opel Corsa-e, Peugeot e-208 and Peugeot e-2008.

All these vehicles use a 50 kWh battery pack that is mated to a 100 kW electric motor. The electric range varies from 310 km to 340 km depending on the vehicle that you choose. However, to keep the costs low and price the eCC21 competitively, the manufacturer will use a smaller battery pack. The eCC21 will be aimed towards people who will be mostly using their electric vehicles to commute around the city and do their daily chores. The eCC21 will be priced higher than the ICE powered CC21. It will be going against the Tata Tiago EV and Mahindra eKUV100.
