Mahindra recently launched the Bolero Neo in the Indian market. It is a compact SUV but is very different from its competitors. This is because it is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle and is based on a ladder-frame chassis whereas all the other compact SUVs are front-wheel drive and has a monocoque chassis. People have been modifying the regular Bolero with much off-road equipment. Here is a render of the Bolero Neo in which it has been imagined as a camper. The rendering has been done by SRK Designs and the video has been uploaded on his YouTube channel.
The artist has increased the length and the wheelbase of the Bolero. This has helped in increasing the cabin space and the artist has also added a pick-up bed. So, now the Bolero Neo is quite a practical vehicle. It can seat four occupants easily with ample legroom and then you have additional space in the form of a bed where you can put your stuff. The pick-up bed is more spacious than the boot but you do lose the security of a lockable boot.

Also, the Bolero Neo comes as a 7-seater vehicle. Mahindra gives side facing seats in the boot whereas the pick-up version will only be a 5-seater because there are no longer seats that would have been mounted in the boot. Other modifications made by the artist are additional bars in the bed to provide rigidity. There is also a set of roof rails.
Bolero Neo
Bolero Neo is being aimed towards people who want the rugged and reliable nature of the Bolero but want a more modern-looking vehicle that has more modern features too. Mahindra is using the ladder frame chassis from the Scorpio and the Thar.
Then there is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 100 PS of max power. Mahindra has increased the torque output from 240 Nm to 260 Nm. All this power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. You also get a rear lockable differential that can come in handy when you find yourself in tricky situations.
The Bolero Neo starts at Rs. 8.48 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 9.99 lakhs ex-showroom. It will be going against Mahindra XUV 300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon and the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Surprisingly the base variant of the Bolero Neo is more affordable than the regular Bolero. This will definitely attract more customers to the Bolero Neo. Even when we compare the top-end variants, the Bolero Neo is more expensive by just Rs. 40,000. However, it does offer better equipment levels and safety tech. Also, it is more powerful and comes with a lockable differential.
Features
It now comes with electric adjustment for the outside rearview mirrors, LED Daytime Running Lamps, static bending headlamps, keyless entry, all four power windows, ECO mode, rear wiper and armrest for the front and rear occupants. You also get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel and cruise control.
