Mahindra launched the all-new Thar in the market last year and it became popular among buyers in a very short span of time. The Thar became so popular that there is currently a waiting period of almost an year on the SUV. One of the reason why Mahindra Thar became so popular among buyers is its pricing. It is currently the most affordable 4×4 SUV one can buy in the country and it currently has no rival in the segment. Tata is also a leading Indian car manufacturer and they launched the all-new Safari in the market early this year. The all-new is based on the Harrier that is another popular product from Tata. Here we have a video that shows how Tata Safari and Mahindra Thar perform in a drag race.
The video has been uploaded by All in One Entertainment on their YouTube channel. The video starts by showing both participants of the race. Both the SUVs used here in the drag race are powered by a diesel engine. Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 170 Ps and 350 Nm of peak torque. Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged mHawk diesel engine that generates 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque.

Vlogger chooses a empty stretch of road for this race. Normally a drag race is done on a neat stretch of road but, here the road is actually broken at places. That is not going to be an issue for any of the cars in this video as they have ample ground clearance. Vlogger is driving the Mahindra Thar and his friend who owns the Thar is driving vlogger’s Tata Safari.
Both of them line up the vehicles at start line and they start racing. Initially, Mahindra Thar took off quite quickly and Safari moved off the line right after it. Mahindra Thar was in the lead but, only for some time. After crossing few hundred metres, Tata Safari overtook Mahindra Thar and took the lead. Safari maintained the lead or rest of the time and won the first round.
After finishing the first round, they lined up the SUVs once again for the second round. In this round, Safari was put in Sport Mode and the Mahindra Thar does not come with any driving modes. The race starts and once again Mahindra Thar was quick off the line. In comparison to the first round, vlogger managed to retain the lead for a longer period of time. The Safari was right behind Thar and was trying to overtake it. Finally, it managed to do so just before crossing the finish line.
Tata Safari was announced as the winner of this race. There are several factors that decide whether a car would win. Here in this case, the Mahindra Thar has a faster throttle response. In comparison to Tata Safari, Mahindra Thar is lighter and that is why it moved off the start line quickly than Safari. However, Thar generates less power than Tata Safari and this was a factor that worked against Thar. Tata Safari generates 48 Bhp and 30 Nm more than Thar. This does not mean Thar is a bad SUV. Both SUVs are good in their respective segments and have their own plus and minuses.
