Skoda just launched the much-awaited Kushaq mid-size SUV in the Indian market. The bookings for the SUV has already been opened and the deliveries will be starting in July. The Kushaq is based on a new MQB-AO-IN platform that has been developed for India. The Kushaq will be going against a lot of SUVs. It competes against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Renault Duster, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks. Skoda has kept the variant line-up quite simple. There are three variants to choose from. There is Active, Ambition and Style.
Active
Despite being the base variant, Active comes with quite a bit of equipment. As standard, you get Multi-Collison Braking, Electronic Differential Lock System, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ESC, Anti-Slip Regulation, Brake Disc Wiping, Roll Over Protection, Dual airbags and seatbelt reminders. Skoda is generous when it comes to offering safety equipment on the base variant. This variant comes with black fabric seats, remote control with foldable key, front centre armrest, cushioned armrests, all power windows and a basic multi-information display. There is also a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 6 speakers. You also get 16-inch wheel covers, black roof rails, halogen headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED tail lamps.
The Active variant is offered only with the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and it comes mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Active variant costs Rs. 10.5 lakhs ex-showroom.

Ambition
Then there is the mid-spec Ambition variant. It adds a childproof rear window lock, dual horn, rear 60:40 split seats, height adjustment for the driver seat, 16-inch alloy wheels, silver roof rails, electrically foldable ORVMs, front scuff plate, LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, fog lamps with cornering function, rear wiper with defogger, cooled glovebox, parcel shelf, rear USB sockets and much more.
It also adds some premium touches to the cabin such as black fabric seats with sporty stripes, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear armrest, painted insert in the dashboard, chrome door handles, steering wheel and AC vents and ambient lighting. The infotainment system also upgrades to a larger 10-inch system. It comes with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MyŠKODA Connect.
The Kushaq 1.0-litre TSI with a manual gearbox is priced at Rs. 12.80 lakhs ex-showroom while the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is priced at Rs. 14.20 lakhs ex-showroom. If you opt for the automatic transmission then you also get Hill Hold Control and paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.
Style
The Style is the top-end variant and it further adds Hill Hold Control, Anti-theft alarm, keyless entry, black and grey perforated leather upholstery, front ventilated seats, a subwoofer for the sound system, electric sunroof, chrome highlights on the bumper, 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome on the dashboard, full LED tail lamps and automatic headlamps with follow me home function. Moreover, you also get an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a wireless charger also. If you opt for the automatic transmission then you get paddle shifters also. If you get the manual gearbox then the Kushaq also comes with curtain airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system and front side airbags.
The 1.0-litre TSI with a manual gearbox is priced at Rs. 14.60 lakhs ex-showroom while the automatic transmission is priced at Rs. 15.80 lakhs ex-showroom. Skoda also offers a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI which costs Rs. 16.20 lakhs ex-showroom and the DSG gearbox with 1.5-litre TSI costs Rs. 17.60 lakhs ex-showroom.
