Toyota Fortuner spied with camouflage: Could it be GR-Sport?

Toyota launched the Fortuner’s facelift in January this year. They also launched the Legender variant of the Fortuner. Interestingly, there is a new Fortuner with camouflage that has been spied in Thailand. It is not clear what all changes can the new version brings. We do not even know if the new variant will be launched in India or not.

From the pictures, we can see that the body shape is the same as the current Fortuner. Even the alloy wheels look similar to the ones found on the current Fortuner. But the front, the air dam is bigger than the regular Fortuner. So, we can expect a newly redesigned front and rear bumper that is sportier.

We can also see that the camouflaged Fortuner is using red brake calipers which signifies that this can be a more sporty variant of the Fortuner. Toyota announced that they will be expanding their Gazoo Racing (GR) range. So, there is a chance that this new variant could be Fortuner GR Sport.

Toyota introducing diesel hybrids

Toyota is one of the last manufacturers who are still relying on their diesel engines. They are now working on the electrification of their diesel engines. Currently, they have a 2.4-litre ‘2GD-FTV’ and 2.8-litre ‘1GD-FTV’. The 2.4-litre diesel engine is doing duty on the Innova Crysta while the larger 2.8-litre diesel engine is working on the Fortuner.

The reports say that the hybrid technology will not be improving the performance of the engine but the hybrid tech will be working on reducing the emissions done by diesel engines. The hybrid versions of the Fortuner and Innova Crysta are expected to enter production in Indonesia in 2022.

Toyota Fortuner Legender

The Legender is the newest member of the Toyota family. It looks more aggressive and has more road presence than the regular facelift of Fortuner. It gets an LED dual-projector setup with different LED Daytime Running Lamps. The grille is Lexus like and is finished in piano black. It also comes with dynamic turn indicators.

Other changes are to the cabin such as dual-tone interior, perforated leather seats, powered tailgate which can be open by sweeping your leg underneath and a wireless charger. However, if you are someone who wants to do off-roading in his vehicle then it is better that you opt for the regular Fortuner because the Legender is not offered with a 4×4 drivetrain despite costing more than a 4×4 Fortuner AT.

Engine

With the facelift, Toyota also bumped up the power figures from the engine. So, now the Fortuner has the class-leading torque figures in its segment. The 2.8-litre diesel engine produces 204 Bhp of max power and 500 Nm of peak torque. You can have it with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

There is also a petrol engine with a cubic capacity of 2.7-litres. It produces 166 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 245 Nm. The petrol engine is not offered with a 4×4 drivetrain. However, Fortuner is the only SUV in its segment that gets a petrol engine.
