Some people are not aware of this but Hyundai has a premium vehicle division called “Genesis”. Its aim is to compete with luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Jaguar etc. Genesis models were showcased when Hyundai inaugurated its new headquarters in Gurugram. Recently, the G80 premium sedan from Genesis was spotted in our country.

The pictures are shared on Instagram by automobiliardent. As of now, there is no confirmation from Hyundai if they plan to introduce the Genesis luxury brand in our country. But still, it is interesting to see how much attention the vehicles from Genesis can get in India.

The G80 competes against the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series in the international markets. The G80 is priced slightly lower than the competitors which makes it look appealing. Also, the design of the sedan is very striking and unique. It is different from anything else that we have seen till now in automotive design.

Dimensions

In the foreign market, the G80 is positioned as a mid-size sedan. It measures 196.7 inches in length, 75 inches in width and height of 57.7 inches. It has a wheelbase of 118.5 inches which is a lot longer than the SUVs like Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus etc.

Engines

The G80 is offered in two petrol engines. There is a 2.5-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder engine and a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. You can get both the engines as rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. There is no manual gearbox on offer because the G80 is positioned as a luxury vehicle.

The 2.5-litre engine produces 300 hp of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque. The 3.5-litre V6 engine is more powerful and produces 391 hp of max power and 530 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Genesis also offers driving modes and shift by wire technology for transmission.

Advanced Driver Aid System

The G80 like a lot of modern vehicles come with ADAS features. It gets Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Safe Exit Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. It also gets Lane following assist, smart cruise control, driver attention warning and remote parking.

Features

It gets Matrix LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ventilated and heated seats, Lexicon sound system with 21 speakers, 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Even the headrests are ventilated and heated. The 2.5-litre engine gets 18-inch alloy wheels while the 3.5-litre engine gets 19-inch alloy wheels. The Prestige package also upgrades the alloy wheels to 20-inches and adds a 12.3-inch 3D digital driver’s display.

There are rain-sensing wipers, power trunks, front and rear parking sensors, power door closure, electrical adjustment for the front seats, ambient lighting, window sunshades, heads-up display, wireless charger, heated steering wheel and a lot more. The interior feels luxurious because of the wood trim finished in matte and Nappa leather. The cabin does feel unique and different from its rivals because of all the design elements.
