Reports of vehicle manufacturers felicitating Olympians for their performance is quite common these days. Mahindra, Tata, Renault have all gifted Olympians a car for their performance. Currently 2021 Paralympics is going on in Tokyo and we have seen some good performances from Indian athletes. One such athlete is Bhavina Patel. She secured a silver medal in table tennis. MG Motor India, has announced that they will be gifting Bhavina Patel a new car when she return to India. Bhavina scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman Paralympian to bring home a medal in table tennis.
Indian player Bhavina Patel lost to China’s Zhou Ying in the women’s singles final in ongoing Tokyo Parlympics. MG Motor India, President & Managing Director, Rajeev Chaba tweeted, “It would be our honor and privilege to gift MG car to Bhavinaben on her return. In the meantime, we would explore the right attachments.”
Talking further, he added, “MG stands for the cause of woman empowerment. We applaud Bhavina Patel for her outstanding achievement, she is an inspiration for others. It is our honor and privilege to gift her a customised SUV car on behalf of the entire MG Family.”

MG will be customising the SUV to make it more friendlier for differently abled people like Bhavina Patel. MG has not mentioned anything about the SUV or car that they will be gifting to Bhavina. MG is all set to launch their mid size SUV Astor in the market. MG recently unveiled some of the features that would be offered in the upcoming Astor SUV.
Astor will be MG’s fifth offering in Indian market after Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV and Gloster. MG Astor which is the brand upcoming SUV will be offering several segment first features. It will be offered with features like Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered personal assistant system, Autonomous Level-2 which is ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System. MG also announced that they will be using Paralympic athlete Deepa Malik’s voice as the voice of Astor’s personal Assistance system. MG will also offer connected car features like inbuilt map, music, park+, KoineArth and many more.
MG Astor is actually a facelifted version of ZS SUV which is available in international market. In India it would be known as Astor and the SUV will be offered with petrol engine only. It will be powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3 litre turbo petrol engine. The naturally aspirated version is expected to generate 120 Ps and 150 Nm of torque. The turbo variant might generate 163 Ps and 230 Nm of peak torque. Both these engine options are expected to be offered with manual and automatic transmission options.
Other than MG Motor India, Indian SUV maker Mahindra also announced on social media recently that they will be gifting a customised Mahindra XUV700 to Paralympian Avani Lekahara. She recently won a Gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics in Women’s 10m AR Standing SH1 Final. Not only did she secure the gold medal, she also set a paralympic record by scoring 249.6.
