2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 spied ahead of launch[Video]

Maruti Suzuki has started testing the facelift of the Alto 800 on the Indian roads. This is the second time that the Alto 800 has been spotted while it was on the test. The hatchback was fully camouflaged and we can only see the rear of it. There was a new gen Celerio and an S-Presso as well alongside the 2022 Alto 800. The test mule was spotted by DesI SpeecH and the video is uploaded on YouTube.

We can see that the design still looks like the current generation Alto but it looks like the manufacturer has squared off the design a bit. The tail lamps have been redesigned and seem like they are square in shape. The first generation Maruti Suzuki 800 also used to have square tail lamps. The test mule is still running on skinny tyres with blacked-out steel rims.

From the previous spy shots, we know that there will be a redesigned front bumper that looks more aggressive because of the honeycomb grille. The headlamps also look larger and the front-end looks sharp.

It seems like the new-gen Alto 800 is a bit larger than the current Alto. It looks taller and wider. The reason behind this could be that it is now based on Suzuki’s Heartect platform which is now being used on the new-gen Celerio, WagonR, Swift and other Maruti Suzuki models. This platform should open up cabin space. So, occupants will have more legroom, shoulder room and headroom. The 2022 Alto 800 could share some of its underpinnings with the S-Presso. This would help Maruti Suzuki save some research and development costs. 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto will be competing against Datsun redi-GO and Renault Kwid.

The turn indicators are mounted on the front fenders and the outside rearview mirror will not get an electric folding function. The interior has not been spied till now. Even the body lines are hidden by the camouflage so we cannot see the proper body shape of the new-gen Celerio. Having said that, the interior could have a new dashboard, redesigned upholstery, a new instrument cluster and a steering wheel.

The top-end variant will come with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Maruti Suzuki calls it SmartPlay Studio. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.  There will be no automatic climate control, it will still come with manual air conditioning with a heater, fabric+vinyl upholstery, rear parcel shelf, two speakers, 12V accessory socket, USB port and much more.

The current Alto comes with a 796 cc, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine produces  47 bhp of max power and 69 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The engine also supports CNG configuration. While running on CNG, the power output is decreased to  41 Ps and 60 Nm of peak torque. Suzuki might use the same engine or they can also give the 1.0-litre K10 engine that produces 67 bhp of max power and 90 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
