2022 Mahindra Scorpio now has been in development for almost three years now. There have been numerous spy shots of the SUV. It is expected to go on sale sometime next year. Now, a new test mule has been spotted on Mumbai Nasik Highway. It seems like this test mule was equipped with a panoramic sunroof.

In the short video, we can see that there is a cut out on the roof that has been camouflaged otherwise. The cutout is the size of a panoramic sunroof. Other things that we notice are side steps that will make getting and getting out easy. There is also a shark-fin antenna and a rear spoiler. Mahindra is also offering roof rails but we do not know whether they will be functional or not.

The interior of the Scorpio has also been spotted. It is expected to come with a black and brown theme. Interestingly, that test mule was spotted with a regular-sized electric sunroof. Now, we do not know if Mahindra will offer a panoramic sunroof or a regular sunroof. It is possible that the panoramic sunroof is reserved only for the top-end variant.
Other features that were revealed were roof-mounted speakers, cruise control, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine, multi-information display and much more. Moreover, we are also expecting Mahindra to offer connected car technology and a 360-degree parking camera.
Engine and gearbox options
Details of the engines are already leaked online. There would be a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The power output of the petrol engine is still not known but it could be somewhere around 160 PS, considering that Thar produces 150 PS.
The diesel engine will be available in two states of tune. The lower variants will produce 130 PS of max power. This is the same tune of the engine that we have seen on the Thar. So, the torque output is expected to be more than 300 Nm. Variants with this engine will only come with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The higher variant’s diesel engine would produce 160 to 170 PS of max power. We do not know the torque output from this engine because we have not yet seen this tune of the engine on any Mahindra vehicle. There would also be multiple drive modes, 4×4 drivetrain and terrain modes on offer. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Other details
Mahindra will use a reworked version of the ladder frame chassis for the new Scorpio. This will help in increasing the ride quality significantly. It will handle better and will be more comfortable for the occupants.
The dimensions of the new Scorpio will be larger than the current one. So, there will be more cabin space. Mahindra will also offer Scorpio with captain seats for the second row. Moreover, Mahindra will most likely keep the current Scorpio on sale alongside the current Scorpio.
