Skoda Kodiaq Facelift: Launch date revealed

Skoda is all set to launch its next vehicle in the Indian market. It will be their flagship, Kodiaq SUV which has not been on sale since the BS6 emission norms kicked in. According to AutoX, the Kodiaq facelift will be launched on January 14th next year.

The Kodiaq is being manufactured at the Aurangabad facility of Skoda and some dealerships have also started accepting bookings for the new Kodiaq. The new SUV will be available in three variants. There will be Style, Sportline and the top-end Laurin and Klement (L&K). The Style will be the base trim, Sportline will be a bit sporty because of its blacked-out exterior bits whereas the Laurin and Klement will have the most bling because it is the most premium variant.

The prices of Kodiaq Facelift are expected to start from somewhere around Rs. 36 lakhs ex-showroom. The prices are slightly on the higher side because Skoda is bringing the Kodiaq as a CKD or Completely Built Unit. But, it does have more premium interiors than the competitors.

With the previous generation Kodiaq, Skoda also used to offer a Scout variant that came with Rough Road Package as standard and made Kodiaq look like a soft-roader. The facelifted Kodiaq will not come with the Scout variant on launch. Skoda might add the Scout variant later on to the line-up.

Petrol engine only

Skoda will no longer offer the Kodiaq with a diesel engine. It will be offered only with a turbocharged petrol engine. It is a 2.0-litre TSI engine that produces max power of 190 PS and a peak torque output of 320 Nm. It will come mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox that will transfer the power to all four wheels. This is the same engine that is doing duty on Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Superb.

The pre-facelift Kodiaq used to come with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine which was less powerful than the new petrol engine. It used to produce 150 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 340 Nm. It also came with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

Dimensions

Skoda Kodiaq has a length of 4,697 mm, breadth of 1,882 mm and height of 1,681 mm. The boot space measures 835-litres and if you fold down the rear seats then the boot space increases to 2,065-litres. The wheelbase measures 1,701 mm.

Features

The cabin of Kodiaq Facelift largely remains the same but there are some upgrades. There is a new two-spoke steering wheel that we are now seeing in other Skoda vehicles such as Kushaq, Slavia and Octavia. There is a new generation of the touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Skoda Play Apps.

There will also be Skoda’s connected car technology, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, ambient lighting, digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, keyless entry, cruise control and much more.

Rivals

The Kodiaq will be going against other SUVs in the segment that include Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and MG Gloster.
