BYD starts delivering e6 electric MPV in India

Chinese automaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) has announced the sales of the first batch of its first-ever vehicle launched in India, the e6 MPV. The vehicles delivered are for those bookings that were made ever since the launch of BYD e6 in India in November 2021. The batch included 30 units of BYD e6 in two colour options of blue with black roof and white.

The BYD e6 was launched in India in November 2021, however, BYD is having its presence in India since 2007. The Chinese automaker has been making and selling electric buses in India since then. Currently, BYD has two different manufacturing facilities in Chennai, with its headquarters set up in New Delhi.

Like the other electric buses from BYD, the e6 is currently sold only in the B2B mode through corporate bulk deals. BYD has already set up six dealers across eight cities in India, from where you can place an order for the BYD e6. While the BYD e6 is currently available only in B2B mode, the company feels that it might be on sale for non-bulk orders if the initial responses meet the expectations.

The BYD e6 is India’s first all-electric MPV, though it is only a five-seater vehicle with a large boot compartment of 580 litres. Available in a single variant, the BYD e6 can be had in either blue or white colour options.

The BYD e6 comes with a 71.7 kWh battery pack and an electric motor, the latter of which produces 95 bhp of power and 180 Nm of torque. The battery offers a maximum driving range of 520 km as per the WLTP cycle, which currently is the highest range offered by any electric passenger car on sale in India.

The battery pack takes 12 hours to get fully charged using the 7 kW charger provided with the e6 for an additional Rs 45,000. However, the battery supports DC fast charging with which it can be charged from 30-80% in 35 minutes. With a 60 kW fast charging, the battery can be charged fully in 90 minutes.

The BYD e6 is offered with a decent amount of contemporary features like projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, LED tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera, reverse parking sensors, dual front airbags, cabin air purifier, 6-way manual adjustment for driver’s seat and steering mounted audio and Bluetooth control.

BYD has quietly set up a handful of showrooms in bigger cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Vijaywada.
