Mahindra XUV700 bookings cross 1 lakh mark: Waiting period hits 19 months

Mahindra launched the XUV700 in the market last year and it quickly became popular in the market. Mahindra recently announced that they have delivered a total of 14,000 units of XUV700 since its launch. According to reports, cumulative bookings for the Mahindra XUV700 has now crossed 1 lakh mark and the waiting period on this SUV has gone up to almost two years depending upon the variant you choose. The ongoing chip shortage and the unprecedented demand of the XUV700 has lead to such long waiting periods. The main reason behind its popularity was its price. It is the most technologically advanced car from Mahindra till date and is offered at an aggressive price tag too.

Mahindra launched the all-new XUV700 last year on independence day and the deliveries for the SUV started on October 30. The bookings for the XUV700 were open from October 7, 2021 and within couple of days time Mahindra received over 50,000 bookings for the SUV. Mahindra initially started with the deliveries of the petrol variants and the diesel variants only started reaching dealership by the end of November last year.

The shortage of semi-conductors have made the waiting period even longer. The top-end AX7 Luxury variant now has a waiting period of almost 84 weeks or about 19 months. Other variants like AX3, AX5 and AX7 that are equipped with AdrenoX touchscreen infotainment system have a waiting period of almost eight months. Even the entry level MX variant has along waiting period. It currently has a waiting period of around 7 months.

XUV700’s base variant

According to reports, Mahindra is now planning to launch a Smart trim from AX7 variant which will sit below the top-end luxury variant. The Smart variant will miss out on some features and is expected to priced around Rs 80,000 less expensive. As there are less number of features, there variant will use lesser number of semiconductors and that would help Mahindra keep up with the demand. As mentioned above, XUV700 is the most feature loaded SUV from Mahindra till date. The long list of features and powerful engine and gearbox combination made XUV700 and instant hit.

Mahindra XUV700competes with SUVs like Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and upcoming Kia Carens. The lower 5-seater version of the SUV competes with Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. XUV700 is the only seven-seater SUV in the segment that comes with Advanced Driver Assistance System. The feature includes features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure warning, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Road sign detection and so on.

Mahindra is offering XUV700 with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 200 Ps and 380 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of the SUV is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine that is available in two states of tune. In the lower MX trims, this engine generates 155 Ps and 360 Nm of peak torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In the higher AX trims, the same engine generates 185 Ps and 420 Nm and 450 Nm of peak torque with manual and automatic transmission respectively. Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with manual and automatic transmission options. The top-end diesel automatic variant also gets AWD feature as an option.
