Last year, Anand Mahindra shared a video of a person driving a homemade car. Impressed by the creation, the chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, promised to reward him with a new Mahindra Bolero. Staying true to his promise, Mr Mahindra has finally rewarded him with a brand new white-coloured Bolero in exchange for his created vehicle.
Delighted that he accepted the offer to exchange his vehicle for a new Bolero. Yesterday his family received the Bolero & we proudly took charge of his creation. It will be part of our collection of cars of all types at our Research Valley & should inspire us to be resourceful. https://t.co/AswU4za6HT pic.twitter.com/xGtfDtl1K0

India has always been a land of innovation, and sooner or later, a worthy innovation is always rewarded. It has been proved once again by a blacksmith from Maharashtra, Mr Dattaraya Lohar. A few weeks ago, Mr Lohar was in news for making a mini version of a Jeep from various scrapped parts of a four-wheeler.

Lohar was using this vehicle, which is commonly called ‘jugaad’ in local terminology, for ferrying people from one place to another in his hometown. The video of his ‘jugaad’ soon went viral on the web world, and eventually, it caught the attention of Anand Mahindra as well.
Anand Mahindra impressed by the resourceful man
While Mahindra was very impressed with the innovation that was born out of necessity and minimal resources, he was concerned about the safety and quality of the vehicle. Keeping in mind that such a ‘jugaad’ is illegal to use on public roads, Mahindra decided to reward Lohar’s excellence by exchanging his ‘jugaad’ for a new Bolero. He had made this announcement on Twitter in December 2021.
Lohar also happily accepted the offer of Anand Mahindra and recently took the delivery of his Bolero. This news was confirmed by Anand Mahindra himself in a tweet, in which he shared the pictures of Lohar taking the delivery of the vehicle. Mahindra has also announced that the ‘jugaad’, which has been acquired in exchange for the new Bolero, will be kept for display at Mahindra’s Research Valley. This vehicle has been kept on display in the hope to inspire the minds working at Mahindra to come up with thoughtful innovations using minimal resources and costs.
Coming to the details of the ‘jugaad’, Lohar created this four-wheeler vehicle, which has a left-hand drive configuration and starts similar to a two-wheeler using a kick-starter. Made with a cost of Rs 60,000 using various scrapped parts of different vehicles, the front end of this ‘jugaad’ resembles much like the retro Jeeps which Mahindra used to make in India in erstwhile decades. This ‘jugaad’ is capable of ferrying five people at one time. However, this vehicle doesn’t comply with the safety and emission norms set by legal authorities, thus making it unfit for use on public roads.
