Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift production starts before official launch

Maruti Suzuki has commenced the series production of the all-new Baleno premium hatchback. The heavily updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been in news for quite some time now, with the spy pictures of both camouflaged and fully-revealed models doing rounds on social media.

A picture of a few units of Nexa Blue coloured Maruti Suzuki Baleno has leaked from what appears to be the production line in the carmaker’s plant. The picture also shows a placard that reads “New Baleno – 1st vehicle rollout – 24th January 2022”, which indicates that the first production model rolled out from the production floors on 24th January 2022.

While the picture looks a bit blurred, it gives a small highlight of what the front end of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno will look like. The new Baleno gets a sharper and wider looking front end, which now has angular looking headlamps and a front grille. This front fascia looks like a tweaked version of the previous model, which has a curved design for both grille and headlamps. The headlamps will come integrated with LED projector bulbs and will get revised L-shaped daytime running LEDs, which also look pointier than before.

Major upgrades in upcoming Baleno

The new Baleno was already spied in a fully uncovered form a few weeks ago, a few pictures of which showed more details about what the new version of the premium hatchback will look like. The rear profile now gets a revised design, with a more compact boot lid than before, and bigger L-shaped tail lamps with new LED inserts. The front and rear bumpers too have been redesigned.

The pictures of the interior of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno leaked before also reveal that the car will now get an entirely different looking cabin. The biggest eye-catching highlight of the new Baleno will be the new 8-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, which will run on new software and get wireless connectivity for Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The lower centre console also looks different with revised buttons for automatic climate control.

Apart from these changes, the new Baleno is also expected to feature side and curtain airbags – a first for Maruti Suzuki and an electronic stability program. The inclusion of these features should enhance the safety of Baleno.  The rest of the features from the current model will be retained in the new model.

The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno is likely to get the new 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine from the Swift and Dzire. Dubbed as K12N Dualjet, this engine produces 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, and gets an idle start-stop feature as standard. Like before, the new Baleno is expected to be available with both 5-speed manual and CVT gearbox options.

The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to hit the showroom floors in February 2022 and compete with Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
