Maruti WagonR Facelift launching next month: Details

According to the sources of Cardekho, Maruti Suzuki will be updating the WagonR with a mild facelift. The current generation of WagonR was launched in 2019 and it has not received any noteworthy upgrades since then. So, it makes sense for Maruti Suzuki to give some updates to the hatchback.  The sources also revealed that the WagonR facelift could launch in February 2022.

As of now, not much information is known about the upcoming version of the hatchback. Having said that the updates would just be cosmetic, there would be no mechanical upgrades. We can expect new front and rear bumpers. The top-end variant could now come with 15-inch alloy wheels that we have seen on the new-gen Celerio.

The interior upgrades will be limited. There could be a new upholstery design but Maruti will not make any changes to the dashboard design. It would continue to come with a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Auto CarPlay. There could also be a new paint option added.

The manufacturer might add an engine idle start/stop system. This will help in saving fuel as the system would automatically shut down the engine when the car comes to a stop and it will also restart the engine when the driver presses the clutch. Moreover, the AMT variants could also now come with Hill Hold Assist which will prevent the hatchback from rolling backwards on the hill.

We are not expecting any changes to the engines or the gearbox of the WagonR. So, there would be two, naturally aspirated petrol engines on offer. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder unit produces 68 PS and 90 Ps. It is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG. While running on CNG, it produces 59 PS and 78 Nm. Then there is the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder unit. It produces 83 PS and 113 Nm. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG variant is offered only with a manual gearbox.

The 1.0-litre engine claims to deliver 21.79 kmpl whereas the 1.2-litre engine claims to return 20.52 kmpl of fuel efficiency. The CNG variant claims to deliver 32.52 km/kg. Features on offer are all power windows, steering mounted audio controls, an Anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution, manual air conditioning, electric adjustment for outside rearview mirrors and much more.

The WagonR is currently offered in three variants, there is LXi, VXi, and ZXi. The CNG variant is offered only with the 1.0-litre engine on the LXi variant. The prices of the WagonR were increased recently. It now starts at Rs. 5.18 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 6.58 lakhs ex-showroom. With the facelift, the prices could increase slightly more.

3new 2019 Maruti Wagonr

WagonR was not only the best selling hatchback of 2021 but it was the best selling car. Maruti Suzuki sold more than 1.64 lakh units of WagonR. It would continue to compete against the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO.
