Mini Cooper Electric launched at Rs 47.20 lakh

The iconic British automotive marque Mini has finally decided to jump onboard the Indian electrification train by launching the all-electric version of its three-door Mini, called the Cooper SE. Mini India has introduced the newest electric iteration of its famed Cooper hatch at a price of Rs. 47.20 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Cooper SE is brought in as a CBU unit and Mini India reported that the first batch was pre-sold in October 2021. The company is also celebrating its 10 year anniversary in India this year.

The Cooper SE like every other ICE Cooper boasts the same familiar silhouette but a few key differences set apart the all-electric vehicle. These include the addition of a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels with asymmetrical spokes, some ‘Energetic Yellow’ accents on the mirror caps and logos along with a unique badge at the rear. The Cooper SE is available in four colours in India – White Silver, Midnight Black, Moonwalk Grey and British Racing Green.

The interior of the new all-electric cooper SE also looks pretty much identical to the outgoing models but yellow accents scattered around the cabin with leather upholstery helps in differentiating between the models. The EV sports a host of technology features like the 8.8-inch touchscreen, rear-view camera, 5-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Harmon Kardon speaker system. Additionally, the Cooper SE also comes equipped with an auto start/stop function, different driving modes selection, cruise control, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor, brake energy recuperation and active cooling air ducts.

Powering the Cooper SE is an electric motor the generates a maximum power output of 135 kW or 184 PS. It also produces a maximum torque of 270 Nm. The EV hatch sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 7.3 seconds and is equipped with a 32.6 kWh battery pack that provides a range of 270 km in a single full charge.

Mini also stated that the Cooper SE can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 36 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger, 2 hours and 30 minutes using a 11 kW AC charger and 9 hours and 43 minutes using a 2.3 kW AC charger. The company also announced that the customers of the Cooper SE will receive an 11kW wall box charger for easy charging at home or work. In addition, the customers will be able to use DC fast chargers across its BMW Group dealer network in India which it will be installing soon.

As mentioned earlier the bookings for the Cooper SE began back in October 2021, during which the entire first batch of the EV was sold out in a single day. The company announced that the deliveries for the first orders will begin in March while the online bookings for the second batch will begin at the same time. As standard, the Mini Electric comes with an 8-year/1 lakh-km warranty for the battery, while it also comes with a standard 2-year warranty for unlimited km (extendable to up to 5 years).
