Skoda Auto launches Slavia sedan at Rs. 10.69 lakhs: Will Rival Honda City & Maruti Ciaz

Skoda Auto India has launched the Slavia mid-size sedan in the Indian market. Right now, the prices of only the 1.0 TSI have been revealed. The Slavia starts from Rs. 10.69 lakhs ex-showroom. We have already driven the 1.0 TSI and you can read the review by clicking here. The prices of the 1.5 TSI will be revealed on 3rd March.

At this price, the Slavia is priced lower than the Kushaq mid-size SUV but more importantly, Slavia is able to undercut the Honda City which is one of the main rivals. The City starts at Rs. 11.23 lakhs ex-showroom.

Slavia would also have to compete against Maruti Suzuki Ciaz which starts at Rs. 8.87 lakhs ex-showroom and the Hyundai Verna which starts at Rs. 9.32 lakhs ex-showroom. The new sedan would have to compete against the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus which will be replacing the Vento in their line-up.

The 1.0-litre TSI is offered in all three variants. There is Active, Ambition and Style. The Ambition and Style variant will also be offered with an automatic transmission. Slavia has already gathered around 5,000 bookings which is a pretty good figure considering it is a sedan.

The 1.0-litre TSI engine is a three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. It produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Most  people will be preferring this engine because it is enough for city duties and can do legal highway speeds stress-free too.

Variant 1.0 TSI 1.0 TSI AT
Active Rs. 10.69 lakhs
Ambition Rs. 12.39 lakhs Rs. 13.59 lakhs
Style Rs. 13.59 lakhs
Style with sunroof Rs. 13.99 lakhs Rs. 15.39 lakhs

Upcoming 1.5-litre TSI engine

The upcoming 1.5-litre TSI engine is a four-cylinder unit that is also turbocharged. It produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This engine is expected to be offered only with the top-end Style variant. The 1.5 TSI will be preferred by enthusiasts, people who like to drive the car themselves.

Plenty of features

Slavia gets a pretty long feature list. It gets an electric sunroof, front ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, USB ports for charging mobile devices, cooled glovebox and automatic climate control. There is also the new two-spoke multi-function steering wheel that we have seen on the newer Skoda vehicles.

The rear occupants also get their own AC vents, an armrest and USB ports. Slavia does miss out on electric adjustment for the front seats but it should not be a deal-breaker. The interior is finished in a black and beige theme which does give a premium look to the cabin. Moreover, there is also leatherette upholstery which adds to the up-market look.

Safety features

Slavia comes with dual airbags, an Anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, Electronic Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking camera with sensors, Traction Control, Multi-Collision Brake Warning and up to 6 airbags.
