Tata launches 4 new variants of Nexon: Adds a new colour and more features

Tata Motors has launched four new variants of the Nexon. They are XZ+ (P), XZA+ (P), XZ+ (HS) and XZA+ (HS). The new variants will be available with petrol engine and diesel engine as well as Dark Edition. A new colour option has also been added, it is called Royale Blue.

Features added

The homegrown manufacturer has also added new features to the new variants. Depending on the variant, the Nexon now comes with premium Benecke Kaliko Leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, an air purifier and an auto-dimming IRVM.

The rest of the feature list stays the same. So, there is an electric sunroof, push-button to start/stop the engine, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, projector headlamps, digital instrument cluster, cooled glovebox, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear AC vents and armrest, automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

There is also a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with Harman sourced speakers and iRA connected car technology.

Prices

The XZ+ (P) is priced at Rs. 11.58 lakhs and XZA+ (P) costs Rs. 12.23 lakhs ex-showroom. Then there is the XZ+ (HS) which costs Rs. 10.86 lakhs and the XZA+ (HS) is priced at Rs. 11.51 lakhs. All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The new variants are priced at Rs. 20,000 lower than the recently launched Kaziranga Edition. Mechanically stays the same

There are no changes to the engine or the gearbox of the Nexon. So, there are two engines on offer. There is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

The petrol engine produces 120 PS of max power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine produces 110 PS of max power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options for both engines are a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed AMT.

Safety features

Being a Tata, the Nexon comes with a lot of safety features as standard. You get ABS with EBD, dual airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Electric Traction Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Puncture Repair Kit, Hill Hold Control, Electric Brake Pre-Fill and Brake Disc Wiping. Moreover, Nexon also has a 5-star rating by the Global NCAP crash test. In fact, Nexon was the first Indian vehicle to score a 5-star rating.

Rivals

Tata Nexon has to compete against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Urban Crusier, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

Tata rolls 3 lakh Nexons

With the new variants launched, Tata Motors has also rolled out 3 lakh units of the Nexon. The SUV was first launched in 2017 and it crossed 2 lakh units in June last year.

Upcoming Long-range Nexon EV

Tata Motors offers the Nexon with a petrol engine, diesel engine and EV. The Nexon EV starts at Rs. 14.29 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 16.90 lakhs ex-showroom. The manufacturer is now working on a long-range version of the Nexon.

It will have a 40 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of around 400 km. It would come with rear disc brakes, an electronic stability program (ESP) and adjustable brake regeneration. The new variant would be priced higher and is expected to launch sometime this year.
