Honda City Hybrid launch date revealed: Car arrives at dealer stockyards

Honda recently unveiled the new City Hybrid for the Indian market. It will be available only in a single fully equipped ZX variant and will be launched on 4th May. Honda dealerships are already accepting bookings for the new sedan. Now, Honda has dispatched the City Hybrid and it has started to reach dealership yards. Here, are a few pictures of the first mass-market hybrid by Honda sitting at a dealership yard.

In the pictures, we can see that the City Hybrid or as Honda likes to call it City e:HEV is finished in a simple white colour. To differentiate it from the regular City, Honda has made some cosmetic changes. It gets a redesigned fog lamp housing which still comes with LED fog lamps, the grille is different as it has a mesh pattern. At the rear, there is a faux diffuser with a carbon fibre effect and a boot lid spoiler. Moreover, the Honda badges now get a blue halo depicting that the vehicle is powered by a hybrid powertrain.

The interior is now finished in ivory and black theme with a wood garnish. This gives a sporty appeal to the cabin. When compared, the regular City comes with a dual-tone black and beige cabin theme which does look more premium. The instrument cluster and the infotainment system is the same as the regular City but now they have been updated to show the information about the hybrid system.

The infotainment system still measures 8-inches and it does support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is an eight-speaker sound system, Google Assistant support, smartwatch compatibility, electric sunroof, part-digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button to start-stop the engine and Honda’s connected car technology with Amazon Echo support.

City e:HEV also comes with 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, lane-watch camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, hill start assist, rear camera with multiple angles, vehicle stability assist and much more.

Honda is also offering Honda Sensing Suite with the City e:HEV which is basically a set of Advanced Driver Aids Systems. It comes with Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Auto High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation etc.

The boot space has been decreased because the additional set of batteries is placed in the boot. The stock City has a boot space of 506 litres, it is expected that the City Hybrid will have a boot space of 300-something litres. Because of the additional batteries, the weight has also gone up by 110 kgs. To handle the added weight Honda has added rear disc brakes.

The City e:HEV comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is running on an Atkinson cycle. It is mated to two electric motors. The combined power output stands at 126 PS and the torque output is 253 Nm. There is only one gearbox on offer, it is an eCVT gearbox. There are three driving modes namely, EV, Hybrid and Petrol. Honda is claiming a fuel efficiency figure of 26.5 kmpl.
