India-bound baby Jeep spied for the first time

In March, Stellantis released official pictures of a new electric SUV from Jeep. The pictures only showed the exterior of the new SUV. Stellantis said that Jeep will be launching the new electric SUV in 2023. Now, the first test mule of the electric SUV has been spotted.

In the image, we can see that it is fully camouflaged. Only a small part of the LED Daytime Running Lamp and headlamp is visible. There is a small strip and an air dam that is visible, we have also seen it in the teaser images.

The design profile is very similar to other Jeep vehicles. So, it has a boxy shape with straight angles and lines. In the render shared by Stellantis, the SUV is finished in a bright bumblebee yellow. Some of the elements are blacked out. For instance, plastic cladding, wheel arches, roof, outside rearview mirrors, decal on the bonnet and the bumper.

Up-front, there is a 7-slat grille that neatly integrates with the headlamp housing. The grille is not functional because being electric there is no engine in the front. However, the air dam is still there to cool down electric motors and the battery management system. There is a blue “e” badge, depicting that it is an electric vehicle. The headlamps are rectangular in shape which we have seen on most Jeep vehicles and there is also a LED Daytime Running Lamp strip. The bumper is relatively simple and has a faux skidplate finished in grey.

On the sides, there are huge wheel arches that are sculpted and also have black plastic cladding. The alloy wheels have a 5-spoke design and are diamond-cut units. The door handles are only visible on the front doors. The rear door handles are placed on C-pillar which gives a three-door effect to the SUV. There is also a shark-fin antenna and a rear spoiler.

From the rear, the new electric SUV looks smart. It has rectangular LED tail lamps with X-shaped Daytime Running Lamps. There is a rear wiper with a washer. The rear bumper is also relatively simple but gets a faux skid plate in grey and two reflector strips. On the tailgate also there is an “e” badge. The number plate holder is located in the centre of the tailgate instead of the bumper.

It is important to note that the production-spec version of the new electric SUV will look a bit different than the render. Having said that, the camouflaged test mule looks very close to the renderings that were shared by Stellantis. As of now, there are no images of the interior. Moreover, we do not know the driving range and the battery size of the new SUV.

Other things that we know are that the upcoming electric SUV is expected to be based on Citroen’s eCMP platform. The same platform is being used by Peugeot and Citroen for their electric vehicles. Being a Jeep, we do know that they will offer a 4×4 version which means that there will be a double motor setup.
