2022 Toyota Hyryder: New teaser reveals connected car technology

Toyota has started releasing new teasers of their upcoming SUV. It is expected to be called Urban Cruiser Hyryder and will be launched on 1st July. It has been developed with Maruti Suzuki and they will also have their own version of the same SUV. The new teaser that Toyota has launched shows the connected car technology.

Toyota calls it “Toyota i-Connect” and we have already seen it on the Glanza. It is available on Android as well as iOS. The connected car services are free for the first three years then you would have to pay for the subscription. As of now, it is not known whether the same subscription service will be applied to the Hyryder or not.

In the teaser, we can see a person starting the air-con system from the mobile application.  Apart from this you can also switch on or off the lights and unlock/lock the doors through the mobile application. You can also check the odometer and track your car from the mobile application.

There are some other features too. The application can give you an alert in case your vehicle is getting towed, it will also give you a notification in case of a collision. Moreover, you can also call the Road Side Assistance from the application itself.

Then there is some vehicle health-related information that you can see on the application, You can get notifications if Toyota issues any recall or if there is a malfunction indicator. The application can be used to book a service appointment and also get maintenance reminders. The application also is compatible with some smartwatches.

In the video, we also get to see some elements of the dashboard, automatic climate control system and the new touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system is the same one that we have seen on the Glanza and the Baleno. It measures 9-inches in size and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The user interface is designed and can now show various different elements at the same time. The lower variants might get a smaller size screen.

The design of the Hyryder looks quite quirky from the teasers. It gets a split-headlamp setup. There is twin-stripe LED Daytime Running Lamp above that merges into the chrome strip. We are seeing this chrome strip on more and more Toyota vehicles. It is on the Corolla Altis as well as the Glanza.

The SUV would measure more than 4 metres and would be going against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. It would also be competing against the Maruti Suzuki YFG which is Maruti’s version of the same SUV.

The YFG and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be powered by two 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder engines. The lower variants would get a mild-hybrid technology just like we have seen on the current Maruti vehicles. It will produce 103 Ps of max power. It will be offered with 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The same engine will be offered with a strong hybrid system. It will produce 116 Ps and will be offered with an e-CVT automatic transmission only. According to the rumours, the mild-hybrid system will be offered with an all-wheel drive setup also.
