Pratap Bose explains the idea behind the design of 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N [Video]

Mahindra will be launching the Scorpio N in the Indian market. They will not be discontinuing the current Scorpio. Instead, they will rename it Scorpio Classic. Pratap Bose is currently leading the design team of Mahindra. A video was recently released in which he explains the design of the 2022 Scorpio N.

The video starts with Pratap Bose explaining the twin peaks logo that we see on the grille of the SUV. The Scorpio N will be the second SUV on which we are seeing the new logo. Till now, only the XUV700 has this logo.

The designers worked hard on the interior theme, material choices and technology. Because of this, the Scorpio N’s interior looks significantly more up-market than the current generation.

The Scorpio N looks butch and muscular. It has pronounced wheel arches, a huge flat bonnet and a stepped-up roof that we also see on the current Scorpio and Tata Safari.  The chrome belt line looks like the sting of a Scorpio as it rises up the D-pillar.

Then there are new twin-barrel headlamps and swiping turn indicators. There are also sting-like Daytime Running Lamps that surround the fog lamps. The designers have retained the tall tail lamp design. All the lighting elements on the Scorpio are LEDs.

Then Pratap Bose talks about the interior. The Scorpio N gets a black and coffee brown theme for the cabin. The upholstery is finished in leatherette and gets white stitching. The touch points now use soft-touch materials. So, the interior of the Scorpio N is a big step up in terms of quality and feel when we compare it to the current Scorpio.

The dashboard is all new and is finished in the same black and brown theme. There is a metal finish around the infotainment system to provide a rugged look. There is also a “Scorpio N” badge on the dashboard. In the video, we can also see Pratap Bose using voice commands using Amazon Alexa.

Other features that we know Scorpio N will offer are dual-zone climate control, push-button to start/stop the engine, keyless entry, multi-function steering wheel, multi-information display and much more.

The infotainment system is also new. It does support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It would come connected to a Sony-sourced sound system. So, we can expect that the sound quality would be good.

The Scorpio N would be offered with a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. We have already experienced both the engines on the Thar and XUV700. The engines are known for their strong power output and refinement.

Mahindra has not yet officially announced the variant details and power outputs of the Scorpio. What we do know is that the diesel engine will be offered with a 4×4 drivetrain also. It is called 4Xplore. There would also be terrain modes on offer. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
