The Mahindra Scorpio-N has arrived in India, and as expected, it has set the pulses of motor enthusiasts racing with its visual appeal and promising specifications. It is with this model that a petrol engine has made its comeback in the Scorpio lineup after a long time. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers other Mahindra SUVs like Thar and XUV700, is in its most powerful state of tune here in Scorpio-N, and a YouTuber has put it on test against a diesel-manual Thar to showcase its prowess.
In a YouTube video uploaded by ‘Panwar Brothers’, we can see a black-coloured Mahindra Scorpio petrol-automatic version competing with a black-coloured Mahindra Thar diesel-manual version in a drag race. The video consists of four rounds of drag races on flat stretches. After two rounds, the drivers of both SUVs swapped their vehicles to attain a clear and unbiased result. The results have somehow favoured the Scorpio in all the rounds.

Mahindra Thar diesel Vs Scorpio-N petrol
In all four rounds, the Mahindra Thar manages to attain a more powerful start. However, after covering some distance, the Mahindra Scorpio manages to surpass the Thar and manage a significant lead over the latter and ends up winning. The result is the same even after the drivers swap their vehicles.
The results indicate that the Thar diesel manual’s initial torque delivery is better. However, as soon as the revs rise, the Scorpio-N proves to be a better performer with its comparatively linear power delivery and availability of torque across the rev range. The automatic transmission of the Scorpio-N petrol-automatic version also has quicker shift timings over the manual transmission of the Thar diesel manual.
The UVs used in the drag race have an entirely different character from each other. The Mahindra Scorpio-N here gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under its hood. Mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, this engine produces 203 PS of maximum power and 380 Nm of maximum torque. The Mahindra Thar here, on the other hand, has a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, which makes 130 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of torque.
On paper, the Mahindra Scorpio-N petrol automatic has higher power and torque outputs compared to the Mahindra Thar diesel manual, which reflects in their real-world performance results as well. The Scorpio-N also gets the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine as the Thar, although in different states of tune.
