Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Baleno CNG: Detail about pricing, powertrain, launch timeline and more

The introduction of Baleno and XL6 CNG isn’t a surprising move as the company has been quite actively introducing CNG iterations of its current line-up with the Swift being the latest launch. It is quite clear that Maruti has to put minimum efforts into introducing these vehicles, as these will utilize the same set of powertrain options from the current CNG range.

The Baleno will utilize the CNG power unit from the Swift and Dzire, while the CNG unit in XL6 will be a direct lift-off from Ertiga CNG. Along with this, these upcoming vehicles will use the same engine tune while offering a similar tank range.

The Baleno CNG will be powered by a familiar 1.2 litre K12C Dual Jet Dual VVT petrol engine churning out 77 bhp and 98.5 Nm of peak torque. It is lower than the regular petrol version which puts out 90 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. The set-up is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The XL6 CNG will make use of the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine, good enough to produce 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque in CNG mode and 100 bhp and 136 Nm in petrol mode. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The fuel efficiency of both vehicles will be in-line with the brand’s current CNG offerings i.e. Swift CNG and Ertiga CNG, all thanks to the identical powertrain.

In terms of pricing, the XL6 and Baleno CNG will command a premium of around Rs. 90,000 over their regular petrol-powered counterparts. If some media reports are to be believed, the Baleno CNG will be offered in Delta and Zeta trims while the XL6 CNG will only be available in base Zeta trim.

Maruti Suzuki will most likely launch the CNG guise of Baleno and XL6 in the coming months. These new offerings will further diversify the CNG line-up of the brand, thereby giving it a competitive edge along with increasing the overall sales potential.
