Toyota is all set to unveil the Innova HyCross in India on the 25th of November, 2022, weeks after the hybrid MPV’s debut in Indonesia. In Indonesia, the HyCross will be called the Innova Zenix. Apart from the Innova HyCross’ reveal on 25th November, pre-bookings for the MPV are expected to commence on the same day. The actual launch and price announcement will happen only at the 2023 Auto Expo, which will be held at Greater Noida in February of 2023.
With the Innova HyCross’ unveil and price announcement, Toyota is taking the same approach as it did with the Hyryder compact SUV, which was unveiled first and launched later. On whether the Innova HyCross will replace the Innova Crysta or if it’ll continue to co-exist with the latter is something that would be known only at the time of unveil/launch. For now though, we have a teaser of the upcoming MPV, and also a 3D image of its bodyshell.

From the teaser, it’s clear that the Toyota Innova HyCross will be styled aggressively, with a crossover-ish stance. In fact, Toyota Indonesia plans to market the Innova HyCross as a crossover. Ample ground clearance and butch styling are likely to be two key aspects of the upcoming MPV. The HyCross will be a petrol-only MPV, making use of a petrol strong hybrid powertrain, similar to what’s seen on the HyRyder.
While the HyRyder uses a 1.5 liter petrol engine and an electric motor, the Innova HyCross – thanks to its greater weight and the need to lug 7 passengers around – will be endowed with a 2 liter petrol engine and a strong electric motor. A CVT automatic gearbox is expected to drive the front wheels of the Innova HyCross. Yes, the new MPV will dump the rear wheel drive layout for a more fuel efficient, front wheel drive design.
Also, the Innova HyCross will dump the body-on-ladder chassis, and instead use a monocoque body. This should give it a car-like drive, and make it more appealing to family car buyers seeking a comfortable and reliable 7 seat Toyota. Another interesting aspect about the Toyota Innova HyCross will be its all-electric mode, making the MPV capable of being used for short distances as an electric car. This is a functionality that’s already available on the Toyota HyRyder.
The Innova HyCross will be the first Toyota in India to feature advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), making the new MPV extremely safe. Also, another first for the Innova line-up will be a panoramic sunroof – a feature that Indians simply can’t get enough of. Other key feature additions on the HyCross include a new touchscreen, 360-degree camera, wireless charging and an upmarket interior design. The Innova HyCross is likely to be priced above the HyRyder, and will also spawn a badge engineered version sold by Maruti Suzuki. Both new MPVs will be produced by Toyota at its Bidadi factory.
